I don't think you need to have a midnight snack.. just have the venue close to a taco bell! :) haha, kidding! mini pizzas? I don't think you should do anything extravagant if you do decide on snakcs!
I just was in a wedding where the bride did late night grilled cheese and bags of chips...BIG hit!
where is your wedding? that's the style and feel you are going for?
pizza, chicken fingers/wings, nachos, cookies & milk, potato skins, or the very british kabobs! just pick some of your favorites that you think your freinds & family will enjoy!
It's not required but is a growing trend that people seem to enjoy. I've never seen it in real life but if you care about celeb trends at all, nearly all of them are doing it according to the magazines and choosing comfort foods such as McD's or pizza or whatever is in the area. Go for it if you think your guests will appreciate it and if you can afford it.
All that said, the style of the wedding itself is irrelevant. By the time dancing starts, it doesn't matter anymore whether the event is formal or casual. Even in the magazines mentioned above, most pictures/articles that I've read mention continuing to use the white glove butler service for example to serve Taco Bell or McD's and folks who have seen those pictures have mentioned that it's charming.
As far as ideas, pizzas are popular. Burgers and fries delivered from the local Wendy's, Arby's, McD's, etc. Tacos from your favorite late night taco place. Sandwich platters. Sit down and think about what sounds good to you (and that your guests will enjoy) at that hour. What types of places do you usually go for a late night snack or where do your guests generally eat that's quick, cheap and filling?
I say its definitely a good idea!
I was at a wedding this weekend & we started getting jiggy with it around 8pm... the late night snack definitely kept me (a big lush) from jumping on the table and showing off my dance moves. Even if its chips & dip- snacks are always appreciated :)
Also make sure to have water bottles available. The last wedding I attended, the folks on the dance floor were partying so hard that everyone went through water like there was no tomorrow, even with other drinks available.
We hired a hotdog cart that was at the exit of our venue. Each guest was able to grab a hotdog, bag of chips and a soda on the way out. It was a HUGE hit and it didn't cost us very much. The hotdog guy was super friendly and dished up awesome hotdogs/kielbasa and veggie dogs smothered in cream cheese, fried onions, sauerkraut or whatever way you wanted it!
Comfort food... sliders, pizza, nachos... Something slightly greasy to sop up the alcohol!
i agree, comfort food!! tomato soup and grilled cheese, or cookies and milk, like 50 said, or even pigs in a blanket
I was at a wedding last year that did a nacho bar towards the end of the night....chips, nacho cheese, jalepenos, salsa, sour cream....it was a BIG hit and perfect because we had all been drinking for quite a bit and needed to sober up!
The suggestions sound so yummy.. adding a few more.. fresh fried donuts, chocolate fountain, "flavor it yourself" potato chip station... warm chocolate cake with ice cream topping station; mini pop burgers.
While I think it's a good idea, you just spent $xx amount of money to have your peeps celebrate with you and now an additional expense? OR, is this tied in with your caterer?

I am setting the dinner to start at 5, and then many of the guests are staying the night at the reception venue.
Should I do a midnight snack?
Any ideas what?
