Everything will look dated at some point. But you shouldn't avoid something for that reason. If you love the lattice, then use it. If you don't like it, then skip it. It doesn't sound like you're being forced to use it.
That is the issue, the way it is set up it is either REALLY ugly door behind us, or the lattice. So while it isn't my ideal, I am trying to figure out how to make it look nicer.
The door might be easier to dress up/cover up than the lattice. Have any pictures?
You can hide the door but not the lattice. Get a ton of sheer fabric (either white or in your wedding colors) and a box or two of white Christmas lights. Put the lights at the top of the door and drape the fabric over that. You shouldn't even be able to tell what the door looks like at that point.
@leafgum: Good point!
@Ember78: That sounds like a great idea! I hadn't even thought of something like that.
This is the room, the lattice is actually where it would be but the tables wont be arranged like that. Also, totally forgot to turn on the lights so its not that dark and ugly! I don't have any of the actual door, since the lattice was in front of it already!

What about doing it I'm front of a window? You can hang white strand lights and cover with a sheer window covering, I will try to find a pic....
Personally I think the lattice is fine...but for another idea, at my wedding they dragged the cake out into the middle of the dance floor (so that everyone could see?) and now in our pictures the backdrop is our wedding guests. I actually love the pictures that way - my FAVE is us cutting the cake with the flower girl in her mom's arms with a HUGE smile on her face! Nothing I would've even thought to plan, but that pic makes me smile everytime I see it.

So my reception is in my churches fellowship hall. There isn't anywhere that is especially pretty for the cake, where a lot of the major pictures seem to be focused since we aren't having dancing. I think I could decorate the lattice they have, like those "U" shaped pannels, to not make it awful. But is there anyway to not make it scream "Bad 90's reception". Any of you who had something like this at your reception would be amazing if you could show me pictures!
