The answer to this question will depend on a lot of things, especially which state you live in. Have you tried negotiating further after their first offer of $100? It might not be a bad idea to decide what you think would be reasonable and fair compensation – i.e., cost of additional movers and the storage unit plus a rent abatement for the two weeks you won’t actually be living there – and ask if they would be amenable to that. If negotiating doesn’t work, you should probably consult a local attorney – your area’s bar association probably has a referral service with low cost consultations. Good luck!
