I'm here:) I just got married May 17th in San Antonio, but I'm still addicted to the site. When is your wedding (and where?)
I know that after I get married I will still be checking obsessively every day as well. I am getting married in the Seattle temple on October 11th.
I'm here too! I got married almost a year ago in the Houston temple, planned the whole shebang in three months for the most popular wedding day of the year (7/7/07), so if you have any questions, feel free to ask.
I'm excited that there are other LDS girls who read weddingbee. Were you guys the ones who suggested they create an LDS board? I know there were two comments for one, so if it wasn't you and it wasn't me, there must be some other LDS brides out there!
I'm here!
Actually, okay, I'll be honest. I WAS engaged, but my fiance decided he wants to date for longer before making any committments to making covenants. Our whole relationship has been long distance, so I can't say I blame him. We're having fun spending the summer TOGETHER without making any wedding plans. :)
So I am excited to talk to other LDS brides on here because um, yeah we were doing the whole cultural hall reception thing. U-G-L-Y.
And we needed to invite the whole ward (dad's the bishop), with a small budget.
But hey, at least the ceremony would have been free ! ;)
allibug-other brides would be astounded to learn that you were able to book your "ceremony location" only 3 months before on the lucky date of 7/7/07. Gotta love it. I don't think I had the nerve to suggest it because I assumed that there weren't a whole lot of us out there. We sure are creating a lot of activity on the Christian board though :)
elizzard-I read your blog! Or at least until you weren't engaged anymore, but it sounds like that might be back on again someday so I will resubscribe. You know how it is with wedding blogs, I have so many I want to read I have to unsubscribe if people aren't updating consistently. I totally know what you mean about inviting the entire ward, we are actually going to have an open house to solve this problem. That way I can have my smaller more intimate wedding but the ward where I lived my entire life until college won't feel left out of things.
elizzard- we invited over 250 people to our first reception, and had a small open house up near where I live, and we did it all on an extremely small budget. I haven't finished all the math yet since it's only been a couple weeks, but it's under $3000, including my dress and his suit. We had a buffet with plenty of food, and a 6 foot cupcake tree for the cake. We were engaged for 7 months so I had time to bargain shop, but it can be done in less time!
And, I was extremely opposed to the cultural hall reception before we got engaged, but it came down to picking my battles. Our reception was actually quite gorgeous, and I know if I had the time I could have made it even better. Everyone commented on how beautiful the room was. The biggest trick was going with a small church, rather than a stake center. So, it can turn out well, I promise. I was dreading it too, but I loved it, and what matters is we got married.
and allibug, this is Christine, in the Capital Ward forever ago:)
jnicholea i'm flattered you would read my blog, haha. I could totally keep blogging about wedding planning... but I'm sure everyone would think I was crazy and desparate! But yeah, I actually feel guilty for not updating... maybe I will today. :)
ahahah... i hate my life.
i'm selling my temple-ready wedding dress and shoes. go here for more info.
elizzard-I'm so sorry things didn't work out for you. Good luck selling your dress.
ckonkle-I thought that was you! Congrats on getting married. I saw your wedding pictures and they are GORGEOUS!
Thanks allibug:)
and elizzard- I bought my dress off craigslist, but I bought it off the SLC one, and I live in Dallas. Since it's free to list, why don't you try listing in some major cities and say you'll ship it? I was able to try on a dress by the same designer very similar to mine to determine sizing, but then just had mine shipped. Unless it's against craiglist rules, you might get a few bites that way. Good luck!
Hi Ladies -
I'm not an LDS bride but I own a dress that I believe would be acceptable for temple.
I wore it in my National Charity League deb ball in high school and it is gorgeous, but I'm not that skinny anymore.
Do you have any advice on where would be the best place to sell it?
Woot! Me and my hubby were married 6/7/08. Due to our living choices we weren't able to get married in the temple. BUUTT...we are working our way to being sealed in the temple so we can be together forever. Yay!
It's good to hear that I'm not the only married, weddingbee stalker!![]()
Hellooo? Are there anymore LDS Brides out there? I'm an Encore/LDS bride who would love to meet fellow LDS brides. (Especially Encore/LDS brides).
Yeah, there is still a few of us out there? I'm an LDS bride, getting married at my meetinghouse. My fiance is not a member so hopefully I'll get my temple marriage later.
I'm another one :) I'm getting married in the San Diego temple on April 11th. I'm having a backyard reception at my family's house in San Diego and then a little bitty cultural hall open house where we live in Tacoma, WA. My mom thinks we'll have like 350 people. I hope it'll be more like 250... but we're totally sending out like 500 announcements. It's INSANE!
I think it's so funny how most LDS weddings are so HUGE. For most LDS brides, a small reception is 200 people or less. LOL. Just last week my visiting teacher was telling me that she had 1000 people come to her reception... yikes. and double yikes.
Are there any other LDS brides still around here? The last post was a month ago so I dunno if any are around the boards somewhere. =)
I still hang around from time to time, but my wedding was quite awhile ago. I can help if you need any ideas or anything!
Hello girls! I am an LDS Bride-to-be as well! I have been lurking this site and decided to officially join and say hello! My FI and I are planning a wedding for July 11 at a golf course in our hometown (Reno, NV). I really want a bishop to marry us but I am having the hardest time finding one who will. I may just have to go with a non-denominational pastor and write the ceremony for him! Speaking of ceremony, anyone have any ideas of how to incorporate being LDS into the wording without making people uncomfortable? I am a recent convert and NONE of my huge family or friends are members. My mom is super freaked out with my religion but I want it to be a part of my wedding. Thanks girls!
July- why are you having trouble finding a bishop to marry you? Is it because you are having it at a golf course instead of the church? One option is they can officially marry you in their office (kind of like if you went to the courthouse or something) and then you could have a ceremony. Sounds like something like that would not fly with your mom though! Is your fiance a member? One way to incorporate being LDS is to talk about eternal families or how we believing in the sealing power of the priesthood. That is what my BIL did for his ring ceremony for all the non-member family members. It will probably be tough to strike a balance that won't upset your mom too much though. If there is someone in your ward you really like who is a good speaker, perhaps have them do a type of reading- lots of converts families are surprised to realize our religion isn't as crazy as they think it is, and it can help to hear it from someone not related to them! Ask your bishop about weddings not at the church buildings, find out what the rules are and if that is what is keeping them from being able to marry you. Good luck!
ckonkle- Yes the bishop has a problem with marrying us outside of the church even though he is allowed to do it. I didn't even think about having him marry us in his office first. I wonder is he would do this and then still speak at the ceremony?? I will ask.
Also, yes my FI is a member (RM). His family is suuuper religious (His grandpa is a sealer in the SLC temple!). Planning this wedding is really stressful b/c his family has always had weddings in the temple and receptions in the gym and mine is going to be like a traditional wedding. His mom thinks the costs are outrageous and that I am being over the top. I feel like I am having a very budget friendly wedding! $12,000 for 160 people! It is so hard blending his family with mine. My dad is already angry about not having any alcohol at the reception. Ugh. Anyways, thanks for the tips on talking about the sealing ordinance. Our goal is to get sealed the following summer so we will definitely figure out a way to incorporate it. Thanks for your help!
That's weird that he has a problem marrying you somewhere other than church. My dad is a bishop and has done lots of outdoor ceremonies. I would just ask some different bishops or even a stake president.
When my dad performed my cousin's ring ceremony (her husband's family weren't members of the church), he talked about the importance of marriage and family with an LDS perspective. He was very careful not to disrespect the people who weren't Mormon or make assumptions that marriage and family isn't important to people that aren't. Does that make sense?
shaver2bee: I wish your dad could marry us! That is exactly what I want- a bishop who is sensitive to my non-member friends and family but still focuses on our beliefs. I am so scared to get a different bishop or even the stake president because I don't want them to make the ceremony seem less special due to the fact that it is outdoors and not in the temple. I want a bishop who is happy we are getting married! My FI's parents are members so I am having them ask their bishop this week if he would marry us... I hope it works out!
ckonkle - I think I know you from another group of an "MG" kind. Its neat to see you around here! =)
July - I think its horrible that your bishop will not marry you outside of the church. Its very difficult when you are trying to plan a ceremony that won't offend anyone. I hope things work out!
I'm going to my bishop interview so I can receive my temple reccomend! I'm so excited! =D
I am LDS too! And I love Wedding Bee! I do think that the LDS board would be a good idea also because there are so many aspects of Temple weddings that are very different from normal weddings such as reception only, the usually smaller budgets, giant bridal parties, tons and tons of guest haha. It is great to know there are other LDS girls out there who I can call on when I need advice!
kireos- I thought I recognized your story from your post a few days ago about it being the worst day- I was having serious deja vu and had to find out where I had read it before! Sorry it took me so long, since this is rarely posted on, I never see it in the new posts and forget to check!
July, I hope you were able to get everything figured out and had a fabulous wedding. Congratulations on your goal of getting sealed next year!
Hi everyone! I just wanted to come back and say thanks for all of your advice. Everything worked out wonderfully and we had a beautiful wedding. Our bishop did end up marrying us outside at the golf course (although I will say that he decided to wing the ceremony wording and so the ceremony was only 5-6 minutes long instead of 15-20). Anyways, what matters is that we are married and all of our friends and family were able to be there to share it with us. We are definitely looking forward to getting sealed in SLC next summer. Good luck to all you brides-to-be!

I know it's a long shot, but are there any other LDS Weddingbee readers out there?
