What is your least favorite chore around the house? So many cleaning threads lately got me to thinking which chore most people dread the most! I hate cleaning toilets, followed by washing dishes!
Folding the laundry! Seriously, I avoid that task like the plague, then a pile of clean clothes builds up in the basket and I'm forced to do it.
I love cleaning the house, especially the kitchen, but I despise doing laundry. Actually, I don't mind washing/drying the clothes, I just hate putting them away. So I guess I hate 50% of laundry.
hands down laundry. FH does a real lot of it since I do most the errands almost all the grocery shopping, cooking and split dishes with FH.
I hate putting it in the washer, waiting to change it and I REALLY despise putting it away. I dont really mind folding it actually.
Cleaning the toilets is the one I hate the most....
With two guys in the house and 3 bathrooms, it really is a chore.
Cleaning the bathroom (tub/shower especially) and dusting. I can NEVER get all the dust bunnies, they seem to breed in the corners.
I actually like doing laundry. Makes me feel organized and tidy.
Dishes, though. Ugh. Even if I wear gloves my hands always wind up chapped, red and painful. (We live in a prewar building. No dishwasher.)
Floors - I hate sweeping and mopping. Especially when hairs get stuck on the broom and you have to pull them off *gag*.

I wont even touch the toilet that is FH's job!
Cleaning the tub/shower. There's just no ergonomic way to do it. I hate it more than all the ones listed!!
The only chore i really really really really really hate and avoid like the plague is cleaning the shower/tub. HATE IT. It just seems impossible to me. There is so much surface area to cover and it just grosses me out. Blech. I would clean 30 toilets before I'd clean one shower.
I hate cleaning the toilets of course, but in a close second is the floors. I have two dogs so I have to do them every other day!
Laundry is just a such a long process.. involving so many steps. ugh i'd rather mop for hours than do laundry
HATE the litter box and laundry - which is why they are now my husband's designated chores!
Oops, sorry I forgot to add "cleaning shower/tub" as an option. That does bother me, but not as much as toilets and dishes.
@mishelleez: I should have added an "all of the above" option. Darn! Your answer is great. I hate them all, too.
Laundry is annoying, but since we got new machines that literally play a little tune when they're done, it's not quite as bad. I'm easily amused sometimes.
Dishes--I absolutely hate doing dishes. I don't know why, but I have a serious phobia of the sound of glass clinking. For the dishes themselves, we bought Corelle to lessen the problem (they don't sound quite as much like glass). I am terrified of dropping anything glass, as it'll send me into a panic attack if it breaks, even if I don't actually get hurt from it. But Mr.Scooter has some serious skin issues on his hands, so he hates doing the dishes, too! It's a no-win situation. God help us if our dishwasher ever breaks and we can't replace it immediately.
I voted for dishes. I dislike doing other chores more (such as cleaning the bathroom), but washing dishes is probably my least favorite chore simply because of how often I have to do it compared to other chores. I feel like there are always dishes waiting in the sink! Oh how I'd love a dishwasher...
i would rather clean 80 toilets then do dishes. LOATHE them. it's probably the one thing me and FH fight about the most!
I hate dusting and can only do it before I take a shower. The dust gets all over me and skeeves me out. Ugh. It's gross.
It's probably just me... but anyone else NOT clean their shower/tub? I cleaned my last apt's once upon moving out. I dont see why it's necessary! It doesn't get a film or mold or anything nasty. It's just clean water that gets in it. We don't have kids or dogs to wash in the tub.
@Rgeddy: I said dishes but it's actually cleaning the bathroom I hate the most. I don't like to do it! But since we moved, the bathroom tiles seem to attract dust and hair more in a really bizarre way, so I get grossed out and need to clean at least once a week. Hate it! I actuall have grown to not mind dishes as much, now that we don't have a dishwasher and are forced to wash them once or twice a day. When it's not stuck on and there are only 5-10 dishes at a time, it's not so bad. :)
@noodlesploosh: I see dust in the shower being gross. Maybe I should clean ours now more often. lol
Folding and putting away laundry! The newest one is cleaning the baseboards in our new apartment. For some reason they collect so much dust and are so hard to clean!
Wow, i'm so surprised that cleaning the toilet isn't the most hated! Germs freak me out. But then, i'm a microbiologist. Go figure ;-)
@crayfish: the thing about toilets is that they're pretty easy. I mean you have that nice wand that keeps you like 2' from the real gross part. and if you spray enough disinfectant on everything else and let it sit a minute before you clean it, its just easy. like a 5 minute max job. Cleaning a shower is both gross, physically challenging, and takes FOREVER.
I don't mind washing and drying the laundry AT ALL but I HATE folding it.
I HATE HATE HATE mopping the floors.
It just seems to me it's moving around the gunk and the floors NEVER seem to be clean - NEVER!!!! I must be doing something wrong...
...I used to hate cleaning the toilet - but once I got over it and started doing it - it's so easy and fast and voila - done! Not like those pesky floors that take FOREVER to do and never seem clean... ugh!
@Mrs.KMM: lol you know overall I don't hate doing laundry. But if I had to get specific about it I don't mind putting clothes in the washer at all-- that is easy. I don't mind taking them out of the dryer-- easy. I put off folding them because it takes a while but I don't really hate it at all. What I hate doing is transferring from washer to dryer. Even though they're clean it kinda skeeves me out at they're all wet. And you cant just dump them from basket to washer or pull them out in a pile like from the dryer. You have to pull them out one at a time to make sure about what gets tried, what gets hung, what gets laid out. It is a pain in the ass-- definitely my least fav step of the process.
Based on the poll at this point, there is no clear winner. Looks like laundry or dishes could be the winner. But no clear majority for any particular chore. Interesting!
Wonder which one our FI's/husband's would choose? I think my husband would pick cleaning toilets or laundry - not sure though.
Can we vote more than once? I can't stand doing dishes, or the trash, or laundry, or the bathroom, or our turtle tank, or hedgehog cage, or anything like that. Really I HATE cleaning and got lucky with a man who will do everything except the floors... and the turtle tank (They are technically MY turtles and it makes him gag and I am used to it, however grose it may be. But I still hate doing it.) Oh and I also have to clean the counters in the kitchen and pick up and organize because he, well, sucks at that somehow. It works out pretty great!
This topic is amusing :) . For me dishes- I can.not.wait. until we move into a place with a dishwasher!
I effing. hate. DISHES. ugh. FI hates laundry and i dont mind laundry at all. so i do laundry he does dishes :) tada!
Oh my god, I hate cleaning the cat box. Our boycat doesn't quite know how to cover up his poo; he scratches the wall next to the box instead of the litter. He also has a very sensitive stomach, so it smells terrible...our other cat gets annoyed with him, haha. But seriously, cat box sucks because that ammonia smell just burns your nostrils--and we clean it daily!
Vacuuming. For sure vacuuming. I don't mind laundry at all, cleaning toilets doesn't bug me, but I DETEST vacuuming!
I chose cleaning the cat box because I outsource the two I hate the most.
Dishes are just put in the dishwasher because I HATE washing dishes.
And I send my laundry out because I hate doing laundry (gotta love free pick up & delivery in NYC). If I had a washer/dryer in my apartment it wouldn't matter, but I have to lug everything to the basement to do it myself.
Cleaning the floors. Any type. Mopping/Vacuuming. I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it.
I voted for laundry. I don't mind actually doing the laundry... it's folding it and putting it away I hate!
