So, I've had a few hair appointments:

First, I had it done half up/down with a poof and some waves....eh.  I wasn't impressed.

Then, I had the loose/low pulled back wavey look....and I still wasn't impressed.

So my friends and I tried to bring the back the tight-pulled-back-and-then-curl-the-pony 90's up do...but it turns out that look is better off right where it has been for the last decade: retired.

And while I was gazing in the mirror, feeling a bit overwhelmed and frustrated that I cannot seem to find a good 'do.  I thought to myself, hmmm, my hair is pretty just the way it is.  So, I think what I'm trying to say is that, I'm not doing anything (too) special to my hair on my big day.

Is this a mistake??  I don't want to look like "bride un-done". (On the other hand, I think I disliked a lot of my trial 'dos because I looked like "bride over-done", if ya feel me?)

go with what makes you feel pretty! If there was a force in the universe that would make my hair flat and smooth like yours I would wear it down too!

I might also keep my hair just the way it is, but I envy your hair! It's so beautiful and looks thick! I think doing it natural is the way to go for you. Think of you in a beautiful dress with a veil-you don't look 'un-done' at all, you'll look like you as a beautiful, naturally stunning bride. I dislike brides that get too 'prettied up' for the big day. It ends up looking too much or not yourself. I say GO FOR IT!

I can completely relate! I wear my hair down every single day... I'm pretty fortunate in the well-behaving hair department! I feel like an updo just isn't me, but I worry that having it down is too casual.. Sigh.

Let's start a trend VM! lol I think wearing your hair down will look great! Are you wearing a veil or some sort of hair accessory?

I feel ya Virginia!  I think you do have great hair and should wear it au natural if you want to! Maybe you add some sort of accessory to your hair, like a pretty pin or some sort of hairpiece.

i'm struggling with this myself b/c I still want to feel like myself and not overdone on my day.  I've gotten an updo once in my life (prom) and it wasn't me!  \

    Good luck!!

You have beautiful hair!  I would just wear it au naturel lol.  Are you wearing a veil or anything like that? Just to wear a touch of weddingness? I am happy that I wore my hair down, and pretty natural because I don't look like someone else, or someone I'm not in my wedding photos.  :)

@Vista--I do feel most comfortable with my hair down, I felt so not-me with t all done up!

@cmills--Thx, my hair is SUPER thick (and long).  It's nice in some ways, but challenging in others, think: 35 min blow dry (ughhhhh!)  I am wearing a pretty big pair of earrings too (which my hair will hide a lot of, but I think it will be just enough to make me look that much more "done-up").

@The others--YES, come on girls, wear yours down too!!!   I am wearing a small diamond necklace, big honkin earrings, and a veil that I don't have picked out yet....

Are you wearing a veil or some other kind of headpiece? Of so, then you won't look undone. Well, you won't look undone regardless, but you'll still look "bridal."

I'm wearing my hair pretty au naturel too. This is what my hair looks like (or will look like once I get it to that length again. I've got about 4 inches to go.

(sorry that the only photo I have of my long hair is one in which I'm shoving an In-N-Out burger in my face)

And this is what I want my hair to look like:

Very similar to my regular hair, just a lot neater and prettier.

Oh my gosh VirginaMarie, your hair is beautiful.  I think you should wear it down.. If you want to dress is up, you could try some loose waves.

I am doing my hair au natural as well...just because I never wear my hair up...or curl my hair...so why do it for our wedding...

Question: How do you attach a veil if you are wearing your hair down?

I think the majority of brides are overdone, both in the hair and makeup departments, and end up not looking like themselves. My fiance mentioned that he hopes I don't wear too much makeup or overdo my hair because he thinks I'm beautiful naturally. Yes, he's sweet.

I'm sure your fiance thinks your gorgeous with your hair down, too. GO FOR IT sister!

... and I agree with the PPs... your hair is very pretty. Rock it!

I think you attach them to hair-down with the little comb most of them are on and lots of bobbies?

They must need to be place higher on the head?

I think do what makes you feel most beautiful!  You're hair is lovely, down.  I would likely do it that way if it were my choice.  I think too often brides look like something they're not in their wedding pictures, which always confused me because when I'm looking back at those photos with my children and grandchildren I want them to see me, not what the latest trend was.

Personally, I have long wavy hair and am wearing it down, with a couple extra curls from an iron to add a bit of body.  Nothing professional, just me - a bit more polished.

@VirginiaMarie - - your hair is drop dead gorgeous. IMO nothing beats the look of thick hair with a 5 star blow out. Hey, what do you think of JA's hair below?  swoooon...

My hair is actually a lot like yours...really thick and full.  I think your hair is beautiful but I have one concern about wearing it down in August.  Does your hair react to heat and humidity?  My hair would poof up like crazy if I hadn't had it styled quite a bit.. just a thought!

I pretty much went with my natural hair as well on the wedding day. It was down and just barely curled with an iron to make it a little less frizzy. I HATE having my hair all done up. I always think it looks so pretty on everyone else, but I just feel weird. Plus, I despise hair spray. I'm glad I went with my hair that way for my wedding. I just felt like "me."

You're hair is lovely, and I  think it would look great as it is!!

VM- you have amazing hair!  I love natural hair, I think you can rock it.  I also prefer natural hair.  I don't like hairspray- I think hair is charming when it has "baby hairs," as we used to call them -framing the face.

Thanks girls, I feel so relieved about this solution!  Not only will I be happier with my look, but I'll be more comfortable too!  phew

And, yes, GREAT point about the humidity!  My hair DOES react to humidity....it just gets a bit..bigger.  But I think I will definitely have some hot tools on hand once I get to the reception venue, I can freshen up in a private bathroom so I can look good and STAY lookin good in the AC!

wow! you and I had the exact same experience. Literally the exact same... down to the same hairstyles I tried. I came to the same conclusion. Down and natural. I hate feeling too 'done'. It's just  not me.

Can I just say that you are gorgeous? wow. Anyway- I have thick hair too and while I love to wear it down it tends to make me hot very easily, and I start to sweat. I noticed you're getting married in August, maybe you'd want to have your hair off your neck to keep you cooler? Is there a certain hairstyle you wear in the summertime that you love? I do love the hairstyle the danadelphia posted though!

@MissCamera--Thanks!  You make a great point about the heat, I am a bit concerned about this.  I might just take many "hair breaks"!?  lol, and re-liven it up?
