So I haven’t been directly involved in this situation, but it has to do with a house that DH is flipping. He flips houses on the side and contracted a guy out to install new windows, as the current ones are the old crank windows and have been covered with plexi glass, therefore not up to code. I don’t know all of the details of their agreement, but I do know that there are a string of emails and texts regarding his work on the house (he also did a few smaller projects) and whether there’s a written contract or not, I’m not 100% sure, but DH gave him a check for $1,500 to cover the cost of the windows and was going to pay him the remainder once the job was completed. We got back from our honeymoon and nothing had been done, yet the check had been cashed, so DH called the guy…no answer. Texted the guy…no answer. Emailed him…annnnd no answer. So our realtor called him to see what the hell was going on and when the guy realized that she represented DH, he acted like he was losing service and has since been ignoring her calls, texts and emails, as well. We don’t think it’s worth the time and money it would require to take him to court and small claims would probably drag out for years and we would doubtfully get anything worth a sh*t out of it anyway.
So what are our options? I thought about calling him and posing as an attorney representing DH, but I’m not sure that’s legal! We have his address so I considered showing up with a baseball bat, but I’m positive that’s not legal (totally kidding btw!). We could incessantly call him and annoy him to the point of ponying up the dough, but other than that I can’t think of any other viable options. Sure I can post our bad experience all over the internet..and I plan to..but he’s not a member of the BBB as far as I can tell and is basically just an independent contractor type of guy. Any advice???
