Alright Bees – I have to vent a little. Maybe some of you share my frustration.
So I recently changed jobs and am now working in a research lab on a college campus. Most everyone in the labs are grad students, post docs, or professors and all know how to dress appropriately.
But when I walk around campus and see all the undergrads, I just want to scream at them: “Leggings are NOT pants!”.
I swear, it feels like at least 1/3 of the girls I see around campus are trying to wear straight up leggings as pants (not under a dress or anything – just paired with a normal shirt). It’s killing me!!
ETA: This essay made me smile. 🙂 http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bunmi-zalob/leggings-are-not-pants-an_b_761958.html

bah. I hate that! I don’t want to see your camel toe! eewwww
I wear leggings all the time. But I always make sure my crotch and butt are covered

@Mrs.KMM: Um yeah, two separate women in my workplace consistently wear leggings as pants. I cringe everytime I see it. We have pervy old guys at my work who I’m sure get off on it but still. Ugh.

I don’t wear leggings with dresses (I wear tights) but I wear long tanks/sweaters/etc. with leggings. As long as my butt is covered, I think it’s fine.
ETA: From what I understand, there is a difference between leggings and tights. Tights are thick pantyhose that I wear to work with suits. Leggings are thin sweatpant-esque material.

My little sister does this, it drives me insane. I just don’t need to see that much of her body.
ETA: I don’t remember who it was but another bee posted this picture and I thought it was funny!

SO AGREE! I go to a Mormon school with a strict dress code, and this STILL happens, and it does NOT look good on anyone! Except maybe models, but most of us do not look like that.

@Mrs.KMM: I feel like if I can see the curvature of a girl’s body as if she was naked, then it’s inappropriate. Also, so many of the girls aren’t necessarily toned – not that they’re fat, that’s different, but wearing leggings as pants – you see EVERYTHING. You need to be extremely fit to make them look good even!
When I was in undergrad the most common outfit around campus was leggings, ugg boots, sweatshirt and hair in a VERY messy bun right in the middle of their head. I don’t know how these girls thought it was “cute” but it looked so unprofessional. Even if it is undergrad.

I wish I had a referee flag to throw for ‘Inappropriate Use of Leggings.’ 5 yards. Of fabric. NOW!

@MissBoPeep: HAHAHA! I love this!!!

tights =/= leggings =/= pants
They are all different!!! You can SEE THROUGH tights. You can’t see through leggings but you still need to cover your crotch & crack. Pants are a completely different category of clothing than tights (which you wear under dresses or skirts) and leggings (which you can wear under a tunic top or long sweater).

YES! THANK YOU! I want to scream this at some girls!

@indibee: Hahahaha!!! Too funny!
I agree, if you’re going to wear leggings, cover your butt completely!

Guh. Welcome to america’s college campus. leggings with uggs and an oversized v neck. That’s the uniform.
They are super comfy though – to lounge in. Not to go out in public in. I mean, they created jeggings and pajama jeans for a reason.

What if they are thick and sturdy and non-camel toe and not see through like lululemon?
I know what you mean, it bothers me when they are cheap and see through. But I wear super lulu’s and they aren’t as flimsy

Eh to each their own. I rock my leggings with long sweaters and long shirts and boots and sorry I see this as an outfit everywhere. Not everyone is going to agree. If people want to judge; go right ahead. 🙂
