I haven't done this yet but I'll have the close to the same issue (22 characters)...I want to keep all my names :) I go by my first and middle name normally and there is no way I want to drop my last name and I definitely want to take my FH name...
So my name will be L**** L** B***** S*******

I got married months ago, but I just finally got around to changing my name with the SSA. I want to have my husband's name (legally and socially so I can share it with our kids), but I also want to keep my maiden name professionally (which involves licensure so my maiden name has to be a part of my legal name).
So...my name was pretty long to begin with, and with my new name it's 27 letters long. When I went to the SSA, they told me there was a 26 letter limit. Seriously? So I called their oh-so-helpful phone number, and the woman told me there was no limit on the length of your name. I don't want to end up dropping my middle name just to fit everything on my SS card, but I don't want to get a card with my new name cut off. This seems like a ridiculous limit to me, but you never know with the SSA.
Does anyone have a really long name (27 characters or longer) on their SS card?
Thanks for your help, ladies!
