I am a new photographer, I love getting shots of my family, and capturing memories of my young daughter. I have a Sony NEX camera which I love!! I have the 18mm-55mm lense and a macro lense, (i got because I love the lower fstop options). I shoot mostly of my family, never looking to do anything professional, just enjoying the new hobby. So I have been thinking about adding a 55mm-210mm, for different events, because there are some times I want a better zoom, I’m just trying to make sure I’m not just buying it to have it and will never use it.
Right now I use my lenses pretty evenly, is it overkill to get a third? Anyone else have it?
Thanks for any advise!

This is probably much better set on a photography forum.

I think you can’t have enough lenses, but that’s just my own two cents.

I have a Canon SLR and as much as I love the idea of more lenses, I find myself being too lazy to swap them and end up keeping one I use most on the camera. Unless I’m going to a sporting event or graduation or something where I KNOW I need that much zoom for the whole time, I wouldn’t bother. Even for travel, I thought I’d need a zoom lens, but looking back on my thousands of pictures I take over each vacation, I never really zoom much more than 50mm.

carriejuly: I’m not familiar with the Sony DSLR series of lenses or cameras but I would recommend a 50mm, 85% of my wedding work I shoot with the 50mm. I have a 70-200 zoom lens and I rarely use this lens but it’s all about preference.

pinkshoes: cheesecakelove: thanks, thats what I”m afraid of.. my husband has a sporting event in a few weeks and I would like it for that, but I’m worried maybe I’d only use it a few times. I think I like the idea of having it, but not sure if I need to for $300
