My RE is talking about putting me on Letrozole this month, and I’m wondering if you have tried this or if you have any success stories. I looked up the drug, and at first found it weird that its primarily for breast cancer. However, it looks like it is actually a great alternative to Clomid.
Also, I’d love any other ideas of things to discuss with the RE. This is our first month of real medical intervention for TTC, and I’m feeling a bit nervous!

I did 4 cycles of Letrozole (Femara) after I was unsuccessful for 4 cycles on Clomid. I handled Letrozole better than clomid. Less crazy mood swings and less dramatic hot flashes (but still did have both symptoms).
I was unsuccessful on letrozole alone as well and had to move onto injectable gonadotropins combined with letrozole. I did get pregnant on my second combined cycle.
You should get a dose of letrozole and a schedule for taking them (usually CD3-7 or 5-9) and a BDing schedule (ours was every other day from CD10-22ish, if I can remember correctly).
A couple questions I would ask: Are you being monitored for ovulation? Do they plan to trigger ovulation? How many cycles are they willing to try (how high of a dose to go) before trying a different treatment?
If you have any questions feel free to ask here or PM me.

@FMM: Thank you so much for this! I realize from your questions how little I know. I might PM you once I have a bit more information.

I did it in preparation for my upcoming FET so that doesn’t really help you much, but I did not have any side effects.

@rusticgirl: I took Letrozole (generic Femara) this cycle, 2.5mg on days 3-7. I’m on CD 13 now and still waiting to O so I don’t know if it will be successful or not yet. Do you know what dose you’re taking and on which days? I think @FMM has a few good questions that you should ask your RE. I’m not being monitored, and we are just doing timed intercourse, no triggers or IUI yet. My RE said he wants us to try this for 3 cycles before we move on to further treatment. And I also haven’t had any side effects. GL hun I hope it’s successful for you!
