Did it happen? I’m abroad and I’m finding it really annoyingly hard to get a straight answer about anything…

Seriously is it just me or is an alarming amount of the politics of the last several years going down freakishly like Aaron Sorkin wrote it?

@Laurenskii:  I’m frantically job hunting and have applied for five really great jobs at the VA.  They sent out a form letter saying that all hiring is on hold due to the government shut down.  I hate to be selfish, but this really sucks!  I’m just trying to get a decent job!

@Bebealways:  YES. I watched the shutdown episode tonight, and it’s just freakishly accurate.

Well as of midnight the paycheck for our house cuts in half and we just have to hope he gets paid back for this time. FI works for the United States Geological Survey (USGS — he’s a science nerd).

At least the dogs will be happy someone is around all day?

FYI the politicians will still get paid for doing more of what they have been doing… nothing.

@renwoman:  Yep. $174,000/year so tomorrow, if the shutdown continues they’d make nearly $700 for an eight hour work day that involves doing absolutely nothing.

@beeintraining:  Where do I sign up for this gig?  All that pay plus lifetime health plus all the perks?  Damn I knew I was looking for jobs in all the wrong places!

@beeintraining:  I’ve been a federal employee almost 24 years, I remember the last shutdown 17 years ago. 2-3 weeks with no pay is no joke. And this time we won’t get paid retroactively – but Congress is exempt from everything, they make sure of that. I hope we’re not out of work for long or somebody I owe is not getting paid in October for real.

I live in the DC area.  Many of my relatives and friends are now without a job or income due to the shutdown.  These are people who already sacrificed better incomes in the private sector to work for the government, and they don’t deserve this!
