My dream gown is the Lucinda gown from J.Crew, but it's almost $3000 (which is half my total budget!) I'm actually having someone on etsy make it for me, so it will be much more affordable. And I am having them make the one change I want (which is to add scalloped embroidery to the top and bottom)
This is a fun thread, I'm excited to see what everyone else has to say!
there are so many beautifull dresses out there. I love champagne or gold colored dresses with embroidery. I love the the pickup skirt look and I think my favorite is strapless:) I will have to look around some online and post a picture when I find my favorite:)
Mandalynn, thats such a pretty dress! I cannot believe someone on Etsy can make it! I never knew about etsy before wedding bee!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok so I looked around and I am going to attach my favorite I found so far:) I love champagne colors:)
Oh lovely!!! I especially like how that particular bouquet looks with the dress + color
i gotta say that this is the dress I want!! I printed it and put it in my book:) A girl can dream:)
@acountrycowgirl - you might consider Maggie Sottero, she has many affordable pick-up gowns that are reasonably affordable (under $1k). It's worth looking into!
Ahh. I can't decide what my dream gown would be. There's so many that I like. Mainly I can't decide I want to go with a trumpet or mermaid style or an A-line. But this dress absolutely takes my breath away. I love the different layers of lace.
@mandalynn~ I took your advice from a few weeks ago, and I am also having the jcrew lucinda dress made by an etsy vendor. I have already sent in my measurements, and I'll be going to Chicago for my first fitting in June! BEST ADVICE EVER! I was in the same boat: In love with the dress, but $3k was 3x my dress budget, so this route is fantastic!
YOu know, I would have major trouble having my own dress made! Even though I have a lovely, wonderful dress that I totally rock, I don't know that I could change a thing about it. I LOVE wedding dresses in general, dont' get me wrong. I wish I had the mad skills to design them myself becuase I know what I like when I see it and what I would change, but there are so many varieties, I think my "dream gown" would ultimately depend on my mood at that very moment. Sometimes I feel high fashion, sometimes I feel classic, sometimes I feel more glam and want a sexier look, so the one I got incorporates it all. I really like dresses with dramatic low, sexy backs, but i had to compromies with the corset. Still it's dramatic! Instead, I'm getting the effect of the low back by having my rehearsal dinner dress and honeymoon dress made by my mom and I. I found two patterns I loved so much and matched them with fabrics I liked, so now I can essentially get what I want. Wow that was long
Jim Hjelm Style Jh8904. Sigh. If it actually looks good on me -because I've yet to actually try it on- I'm so getting it custom made.

My dream dress used to be the last one Julia roberts wore in runaway bride. then i saw bridewars with a friends and loved Kate hudsons dress...
i have found so many breath-taking dresses...but not one to perfectly suit me, yet...
i have, however dreamed of it....
something with off the sholder sleeves.. lotss of lace... in ivory... and i want the skirt of it to be shorter in the front.... layered.... with a loNG train in the back.....
i cant help but to be picky!! :p
My dream would be to be taller so I would have had more dress options. I love V-necks but they made me look short.
I have no idea what my dream dress is! I'm plus sized, so I haven't been able to try on very many dresses when I've gone shopping (and I am pretty opposed to David's Bridal), and I just don't like the typical poofy white dress. I have no idea what to wear!
I will actually be wearing my dream dress, Jim Hjelm's JH8663. If there was one thing that I could change about the dress, it would be to open the back up a little more. I would love for the back to look like the JH8904 (see Gerbera's photo above). Other than that, it's perfect! Here's my dress...
Dang! Crafty that was your prom dress? Awesome.
Hm. Would you consider finding/hiring a really good seamstress to modify it?
My dream dress would be Amy Michelson's Grace. I love how flowy it is very romantic. I knew that I should never try it on or I would have sold everything I own to get it, since it was about three times my budget.
@Gerbera: LOL No, it's my dream (and actual) wedding dress!
Because it's entirely lace, I'm a little nervous about making too drastic of an alteration. They are already narrowing the shoulder area a bit, since I have such a small frame. Otherwise, it looks too closed up in the front. They're also taking in a good 3" to 4", because I wasn't blessed with the tall genes. :o)
BTW, do you think that the sash on my dress should be tied in the front (like in my photo) or in the back (like in your photo)? My mom says that bow in the front looks best, but I'm not so sure.
With unlimited budget I'd pick the Kirsti Kelly Belle gown, who wouldn't want to look like a princess on their day!? I'd probably even wear it in the gold! How fun... Oh well, if only 5k would fall from the sky.
@ craftypants,I think it looks good both ways but I am personally a bigger fan of the sash tied in the back. If I do go with this dress I might look into getting a custom sash more like JH8857 but in red! I love the long sash that trails with train. But maybe a thinner ribbon sash (long) because it might look better with a slim sheath dress so it doesn't take away too much from the dress.
I love 8857 as well but my MOH thinks it's too simple.
Ahh, I have yet to decide what my dream dress is. Knowing I can get someone on Etsy to make me a fabulous dress for a good price has widened my search to more expensive dresses and despite the outrageous amount of time I spend browsing bridal websites...I still can't decide what my favorite is! So I'll post a few pictures of today's faves.
I love the tulle on the first one, the ruching on the second, and the lace on the third. Ugh! So many beautiful choices!! I may be a 25-dress-bride!
I get to wear my dream dress! I found it online about six months before I got engaged and it's the one I'm getting!!!
@Gerbera: That sash is gorgeous! The longer length really adds beautiful detail to the back. My sash isn't as long as that one, but I would have to wrap it around at least twice so that the ends don't hang to my knees. I really love the look/size/placement of the bow on JH8904... I think that's what I'll go with. So glad that you shared that photo! :o)
@KateMW - JennyBryde and I both went with BeyondTheReflection on Etsy. She seemed the most capable out of everyone that answered my alchemy request (while staying in my price range) She's been great to work with so far!
i love the dresses with little cap sleves that look sort of turn of the century, but i'm a plys sized bride so no tiny sleeves for me... but i found my dream dress on accident while looking for something else, i wanted all lace, maybe a halter with some tulle sticking out from the hem, and what i found had shinyness and straplessness, and it is perfect! (and slimming!) it is out of my budget but my mom said she would help so yay!
I never really found a dress that was my dream dress, just one that I liked and could afford. My dream dress would have off the shoulder sleeves, chiffon, and some lace (I don't even know if that's possible :p) It would have a long fluttery train that makes me look like a Greek goddess :) haha, so not happening!
This is my dream wedding dress! It is, of course, unattainable.
It was posted by someone else earlier this year and I have been looking for something like it ever since! If anyone has any idea where to find a dress like it, I will be forever greatful.

MsAnne that Emerald dress is stunning...I looked at it closer on their website and if I had a body like the models I would be walking down the aisle in it!
I try to put the URL for the pic...but nothing is showing when I enter post? How to I upload a pic? Thanks!
@ Miss Rye Bread,
That is an absolute steal! The dress is gorgeous and you look gorgeous in it!
I'm revising my answer...the original dream dress that still haunts my dreams (even as of last night, ha)...JCrew Daphne.
Unless you have a replica made, find someone who is willing to part with it or you happen to be a size 0 or 2 and can find it on ebay...not gonna happen.

Tell the hive details of your dream dress, and if you have pictures, post them!!!!
Alternative: If you could change something about your dress, what would you change?
I would really like to use this info to help me finish my wedding dress. I know the structure I want, but I cannot figure out the rest. I'm so lost.
