...in Hawaii, what would your dress be?
I need some inspiration.
:)
Nice!! That dress definitely does have a couple things I tend to love -- straps and covered buttons on the back! And I like the way the back comes to a V rather than straight across.
@littlemissmango: I haven't seen you on the boards for awhile!
EDIT: didn't see the dress part!! I'll keep looking, but I really wanted to share a cool vintage cake I found! Dang it.
@Heatherloveskenny: Hi! I knooow... I've been so busy with my blog, and for a while to tell you the truth I was starting to get kinda "over" wedding-ness. But we're getting a little closer now, and I'm actually starting to plan, so of course I had to come back to the bee! Really stuck on the dress issue though. Every day I want something different.
You know what I definitely want though... is that CAKE. Good work.
ETA: lol, cakes are important too! Bring. Back. The. Cake.
@kala_way: Oooh, I like!! Do you know the names/designers of those?
@littlemissmango: Ughh. I feel so dumb, for some reason I instantly saw vintage backyard wedding and had to post that!
But when I think backyard vintagey, would you want a tea length dress?
mine is a backyard vintage beach wedding in north carolina and this is my dress :)

@Heatherloveskenny: Hahah it's okay to have vintage cake on the brain!!
Hmm.. I do like tea lengths, but I'm kind of set on a full-length look for ours. The backyard part is confusing -- ceremony will actually be on the beach, then we are renting a VRBO house for peeps coming over from the mainalnd and having the reception there.
@littlemissmango: I just searched on google so they're both the "China" style sites.
@ijustrockout: Whoah!! Is that girl a barbie doll?! She literally has no waist.
That dress is a knockout. You probably have gorgeous curves and are going to look amazing.
I really wish I could wear silk, but I just have a sneaking suspicion that my bony hips are going to stick out in a really icky way if I were to try. :(
this is one of my favorites - I would have gotten it if I didn't already have something!

This might not be okay with wind on the beach though. This is harder than I thought it would be!

I love the top of this...
I might be totally off though.
And I guess...I can bring back the cake lol

If it were me, I would go VERY retro- I'm thinking like 40's/50's kitchy Hawaiian theme (awesome Hawaiian print shirts, anyone?) with a very vintage style dress.
Short, poofy skirt.... Very fun!

or

@napabridekelsey: Definitely one of my fave Maggie designs but I totally forgot about it! Thanks!
@Heatherloveskenny: My jaw literally dropped. What is that dress?! Who makes it? Where is it?? I LOVE it. Also still loving the cake. Thank you. lol :)
ETA: Wait a second, I didn't realize at first that those are two different ones. I love them both!
@tinylittlebird: SUPER fun. That really is a great idea, to just go full-force with it. You are good at this game!!
Another bee posted this pic of her wedding dress. I fell head over heels inlove with this gown!

This is a bride that I did a wedding for who wore it, I've been in love with it since!

@littlemissmango: i have bony hips! the sash covers them well...i'm thinner 5'7 and 115-120 (depending on time of month!)...there are a lot of nice dresses here, i am sure you will find one!
I actually went to a wedding once that had a Hawaiian theme- the groom wore a Hawaiian shirt under a white suit!
If I went this route, I think I would put all my bridesmaids in different floral print dresses.... I love me some floral prints :)
That's kind of the look I was going for. I loved this Lazaro when I tried it on but I didn't want a strapless dress. You can't tell but the second layer is sparkly tulle so it shimmered when you walked. Sigh... Can I get married again?

@ijustrockout: no way! Oh yeah I guess that sash over the hips would kinda cushion things perfectly! That dress is so awesome. People tend to think "lace" when they think "vintage" but I think silk says vintage and all kinds of class. Sexy, sexy class. :)
@tinylittlebird: Okay that is amazing. I was thinking sandy-colored linen suit, but FI just very well may have to rock an aloha shirt underneath. And I am totally planning on mis-matched BMs! Florals would be awesome.
The first dress was on etsy -
http://www.etsy.com/listing/72779844/ivorie
the shop has a few super pretty vintage dresses
The second dress was vera wang inspired I think -
but I got it off of this blog:
http://www.alyssazukas.com/uncategorized/one-of-a-kind-vintage-vera-wang-wedding-dress-for-sale/
and I can't find it anywhere else :-/
@LGenz: Lazaro!! Aahh... I have fallen in love with a couple of his, that one is gorgeous! The runway pic gives a much better idea of what's going on. Do you know the style number?
@napabridekelsey: Pretty!! oh, and... go beavs. ;)
@Heatherloveskenny: I think I've seen that Etsy seller before, but totally missed that dress! How nice that it's both an original design and also not like $8 grand. (some etsyers are nuts, I tell you.) Boo to the second one being a mystery. Prettiest beading ever.
@littlemissmango: What style of dresses are you *really* thinking for your BMs? (Silhouette, I mean)... and what color palette?
Because I would *love* to help you find some cute, mismatched, floral bridesmaids dresses.
I seriously considered going that route for my own wedding, but then my dress ended up being more romantic than retro, so we went with solid color chiffon dresses instead.
Ah, well... I can still play virtual dress-up :)
@LGenz: thank you!
@tinylittlebird: Oh yay!! Well, colors we are thinking kind of a teal, coral, yellow, orange tropical vibe, and as for shape/style, my only real criteria is that they be able to hula in them. (the BMs and I are providing the entertainment for the evening, haha!) Any ideas for that?
@littlemissmango: Well, I'm *always* a fan of the tea dresses from SohoMade on Etsy... they were featured on The Free Wedding (a version of The Not Wedding) a few years ago.

I'm sure if you wanted to be more specific in your colors, you could pick out fabric and have them made (either by SohoMade, or a seamstress local to you)
But... there are *so many* fun dresses out there! I think that depending on what body type your girls have, either pencil dresses or circle-skirt/gathered skirt dresses would be cute in the right fabrics- I'm pictureing Dior's New Look styles (ie. very 50's) meets floral print :)

Something like this, even though I know that it's probably too long to be sensible in the sand :) Maybe if it were shortened?

@tinylittlebird: Okay, you are amazing. Those are PERFECT! And pretty reasonably priced! I love that I could just have that seller make all the dresses, and mismatch style them perfectly. I am getting really excited.
@hilsy85: Oh, Hilsy. You are a girl after my own heart. I became obsessed with Amy like, way back in the waiting stages, and Grace was the first I fell in love with. I am so glad you posted this because I was starting to have doubts that it would really fit with what I'm going with for the wedding, but I think you have good taste and now I think I was right from the beginning that it would work. My mom didn't really like it though! Still, I have a Google alert set to tell me whenever another one of these pops up on a used site. Amy isn't making dresses anymore. :(
@littlemissmango: Ahh that's so disappointing that she's no longer making dresses! I fell in LOVE with this dress ever since seeing it on a bee here. I'll keep my fingers crossed that a used one pops up! And I think it would be perfect for your wedding--it's SO dreamy and romantic, and I can just see all the layers fluttering in the ocean breeze...siiiigh :)
@hilsy85: I forgot about Grace! That has to be one of my top 5 dresses ever.
@hilsy85: I know :( I heard she is actually recovering from breast cancer, so I think that is why. The oooonly thing I kind of don't like on the dress is the way the lace bodice does a zig zag around the waist. For some terrible reason it reminds me of Charlie Brown's yellow t-shirt. Stupid! I know it's beautiful! I just kind of can't look past that these days.
What do you think about the MGM?

It is missing those dreamy straps though, and I've never seen it on a used site so I'd probably have to get a seamstress to replicate it.
@littlemissmango: Hmm what is the back like? One of the things I loooove about Grace is the back--it's so sexy and yet so romantic and elegant to me all at the same time! The MGM is pretty...I kind of don't like how the fabric goes around the boobs in front. It like divides them, like "Here are my two separate boobs!" I dunno..but the bottom is gorgeous.
@hilsy85: I literally laughed out loud. You are so right about the boob separation.
What do you think about this one? It's another dress I've had my eye on for a while.

@littlemissmango: I do like that one! I'm not sure about the flower on the back (I'd need a closer look) but other than that, it's very pretty and soft/romantic.
@littlemissmango: We are having a vintagey beach wedding, too! This is my dress! It's very similar to the first one posted!
