I was obsessing about potentially not liking a ring SO would pick, so I intervened and took over. I’ve settled on a custom design but we need to save up for it to be made. Here it is:
I’d love to see how SO’s do when left to their own devices and what women choose for themselves.
So let’s see you rings, ladies! State how it was chosen and by whom 🙂

I have always wanted to have the yellow gold Tiffany Setting, even though there are so many replicas and similar styles out there, and yes you do pay more for the name, but in my head it was my dream engagement ring. that’s what my Fiance got me 🙂 so i picked it, and my Fiance was ok with that!

I told him to get me a plain Tiffany solitaire, and we would have it reset later….
heres my blingfore & Blingafter…

@ForeverAndEverAfter: So, the stone was taken out of the Tiffany setting and added to a different setting? Or were the stones added to the Tiffany setting?

I picked a few that I liked and FH was supposed to pick between them, but I completely fell in love with one in particular, so he ended up getting that one.

There was no option for mine, so I picked other.
I didn’t give him an idea, I told him exactly which one I wanted and we got it!

I made it clear early on that I wasn’t into clear diamonds, much to my FI’s relief! However, I had quite a love affair for blue diamonds, which are still pricey! I sent him a few styles I really loved, while trying to keep it budget-friendly. I ended up casually browsing Etsy and finding a gorgeous 2ct. blue topaz ring, and falling in love with it. Because of the different stone, and the really amazing setting — not to mention the really low price tag! — the blue topaz was what he ended up going with.
Now 4 months later, I’m still obsessed with it. I’m so happy with what he chose for me. ^_^

Here’s my ring that Darling Husband picked out completely by himself. And I love it! It’s nothing like what I wanted, but it’s everything I would want at the same time. If that makes sense 🙂

Mine was an heirloom from my hubby’s grandmother. He showed it to me soon after his mom gave it to him and I was in love with it ever since. I’m not sure what I would have done if I didn’t like it though.

My husband chose the center ring as a complete surprise, then we had the 2 outer rings custom made to go with it.

My fiance and I went ring shopping together, and I had about 3 final picks that I LOVED. He knew this was #1 though, and later I told him “Don’t feel the need to pick out something different for me just so you can say you picked it out”
I ended getting what I wanted 🙂

When we went shopping, I picked out two rings I liked. I loved the setting of one of the rings, but was hesitant on the diamond in it. And I also loved a 1 ct. cushion cut solitaire.
Fiance went on his own to pick out the ring, and ended up combining the two rings…putting a ~1ct cushion into the setting that I loved. No one at the store knew if it was going to look right, but it turned out perfect. He did a fantastic job.

I gave him an idea of what I wanted and then in the end we chose the setting together. He chose the size/shape of the centre stone though (:

I picked mine – well, I found a very similar style on an antique site and we had it remade. I would’ve been happy with a simpler, more modern ring, but as soon as I saw it, I was in love! Here’s mine with his:
