Come on ladies, share the details for you rings. Would also love to hear if you help choose it or he had the freedom to choose for you. Let me know! I am not yet engaged so I have nothing to share this point.
Lets hear the details!
I knew when we started talking about rings that I did not want a traditional ring. We went to a diamond dealer and I picked out a 1.5 brilliant black diamond. (I think it is called a brilliant.) I also picked out the setting. I did not see it together until the night we got engaged, which was a surprise!

I picked it out myself. He probably would have chosen a solitaire, but I wanted an eternity ring. Now he loves my choice. It is understated, but so sparkly.

Here is mine. I will be getting a matching diamond band for the ceremony to wear as my wedding ring.
I forgot to mention, we went looking together, and I saw this one and fell in love with it, and he said let's get it. I am glad he said to get it because I love it more each time I look at it.

I picked this one out because it was fairly unique, simple, and cheap!
The only problem I wasn't aware of with this ring (and wish I had realized earlier) is that with halo rings you often find that most bands will not fit--they must be curved. And it is almost impossible to find a pre-made one that will lie flush. Most girls have to get custom rings (so much for cheap). So I will likely be getting a band and wearing my e-ring on the other hand.

The wedding band find was unexpected, but I love the combination!
Well, my first engagement ring he picked out all by himself, he knew I wanted a princess cut diamond. My old ring looked like this:
Long story short, the first ring broke and was not fixable so then we decided to go to a family friend (who is a fantastic jeweler) to have him make me a new ring. We used the same setting from the old one and just added new diamonds to it! This is my NEW ring and I couldn't be happier!
Here are my ladies. I told my husband what shape I wanted. It's inspired by the tiffany three stone lucida which I showed him pictures of. After that.. he took over. I never actually went shopping with him and he picked the size and had the setting designed for me.

I talked about how I didn't really like diamonds (or clear stones in general- yes, I know those are diamonds on the sides, I don't mind those) He chose and here we are now!
I like to say that she's black like my heart.
I helped pick mine out! He had it made so I also did not see the final product until he proposed! But I loveeee it!!! :)

We chose mine together, but it's the complete opposite of what I thought I wanted, and I LOVE it!

I originally told my man that I wanted a sapphire center stone. He told me that I had to have a diamond (ooooookaaaaaay). He did it all himself; amazingly he went to a jeweler and said he wanted a diamond with alternating saphires and diamonds on the band, and they designed it together from scratch. I can't believe it because it is the most beautiful ring I've ever seen. Maybe if lawyering doesn't work out my FI will go into the jewelry business ;)

We went ring browzing once. I wanted a cusion cut but my FI went out on a limb and got me a radiant cut. I LOVE it! It is sooo sparkly!
Here is my lovely!! Princess center and princess sides!
FI picked out the design himself. He prefered round cut, but he knew I loved princess cut so princess cut for the center diamond and round cut for the ones on the (eternity) band.
I love love love my e-ring. I stare at it all the time! I went with him to pick it out.

My fiance designed my ring and had it custom made, I told him long ago that I wanted a green stone with diamonds on the side! I originally wanted an emerald but they are a bit fragile for rings so he found this stone the tsavorite instead. It is tougher and has a beautiful deep green color and is glossy because it is a kind of garnet.
The only downside is that the shape definitely doesn't fit with our bands so it will probably be moved to the right hand after the wedding.

Here is my e-ring. I gave FI basic instructions (white gold, sapphire center stone, diamonds on side/band) but he picked it out all on his own 
He pretty much did everything on his own! I showed my mom my favorite types and she whispered to him. He then went on hunting on his own until he found the one he liked best! :) I love it to death! I couldn't think of a better ring for me! :)

@missbubbles and @helenberrycrunch - I love your black diamonds! My FI was deciding between a sapphire and black diamond for my ring and ultimately went with the sapphire. I would have been happy either way.
My love picked it out himself. I told him what diamond I liked and the rest was up to him. Asscher cuts are beautiful. Here's a picture ladies.
