I just wanted to have a quick rave about Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and see if any other Bees have had similar experiences.
DH and I haven’t been trying for that long to get pregnant (well, since end of November last year) but so far we haven’t had any luck. I know I am ovulating, because I chart, but since coming off the Pill in March last year my cycles have never been regular and last month was 45 days. I always ovulate (I know this because I chart) but I can never predict it and it has been super frustrating. Medical tests have shown that i do not have PCOS or any other underlying disorders… my body is just out of whack.
So anyway, at the end of last cycle, a day before AF was due to arrive and I was all grouchy and emotional I went and saw a TCM practitioner who specialises in women’s health. She started me on acupnucture once every 2 weeks and herbs, in order to help balance my hormones and regulate my cycles.
WELL! After a week on the herbs I was floored. My skin, which has been pretty gross since I came off the Pill (and which I’m quite self concious about) was SO much better. And now, nearly a month later is it almost completely clear! I am shocked! I usually have acne on my back and at my temples and now I have a few random spots but the rest is clear. I even bought a backless dress today – something I would have been too embarrassed to do even a month ago! A-maze-ing!
Then, this month, I ovulated on day 17. DAY 17!! Usually it’s around day 25 and last month it was day 30. I also noticed my CM was much more fluid leading up to O day.
So now we wait and see what happens over the next few months. I’m not stressing over getting pregnant (although it would be just about the greatest thing ever), I’m just excited to get my cycle sorted and I’m now a total TCM convert (I’m usually a bit of a skeptic until proven otherwise.)
So have any other bees had any positive experiences with TCM for TTC or anything else? Would love to hear some other stories!

I used to see an acupuncturist for some hormone-related issues (not related to fertility), and their office had a board with pictures of all of the babies that had been born to mothers with trouble conceiving who had had acupuncture with them. Two of my friends tried acupuncture (in combination with other things) when they encountered fertility problems, and both have healthy children now.
I 100% believe that acupuncture works, but you’ve got to see someone good. I really miss going, but I just couldn’t afford to keep paying out of pocket every week.

I’ve had great success with TCM for insomnia and anxiety. It’s also kind of fun, so it’s a mode of treatment I really enjoy. 🙂

@cmbr: It’s definitley expensive, but if it works I think it’s well worth it. Glad to hear your friends had success!
@shadowedpixie: So excited to hear that it worked for you in the past. Do you still use it?

@PinkTeapot: I’m a huge believer in acupunture. I reckon my acupuncturist could tell me he could get pigs to fly and I’d believe him. Thats how much I trust him. Ive been TTC for a year I’ve been going to him since JaN. I went to him recently, feeling really down (I’d day borderline depressed) and within a day of going to him i felt better. He’s also getting me herbs to increase libido(can’t wait for those!). Let’s hope it helps me get pregnant soon 🙂

@phoebephoebo: I will cross my fingers for you! Are you going to try herbs for helping with conception as well?

@PinkTeapot: it’s brilliant that your cycles are going back to normal. I’ve heard of so many people with problems with their cycles after being on the pill. I’m lucky in that regard as I was never on it. I can imagine the frustration! Hopefully it will continue.
He mainly does acupuncture but mentioned about getting me herbs for libido but had never mentioned herbs before. What are you on? Btw, what type of acupuncture are you doing? Mine is Tungs? Not really sure of the difference.

…well my Po Po (Chinese grandmother) gave me a fertility buddha when she passed away last year. She had recieved it on her wedding day long ago and the kids surrounding buddha were 4 boys and one girl, she ended up having 4 boys and one girl. I was careful not to touch it until we were TTC…finally I touched it and literally a month later I was pregnant with twins! Twins do not run in my family at all. So Im not sure this falls under TCM but fertility buddha worked for DH and I.

@phoebephoebo: Not sure what the herbs are. My practitioner offered me a print-out with all the names etc. but I told her not to worry, that I trusted her! Not sure about the different kinds of acupuncture so can’t tell you what type I am having.

Glad to hear you are having some positive outcomes fromTCM, I did it for 6 months but did not have success (unless you consider actually swallowing them A success because they tasted awful!) sending you BFP vibes!
@Hippos: I’m on my 34th cycle TTC can I come touch your Buddha? We need all the help we can get! Haha! Congrats on your twins!

You are more than welcome to touch my buddha lol, I don’t have anymore use for it anymore. You can always find a fertility buddha for yourself though!

My insurance covers acupuncture and at my clinic, if there is a TCM appointment open concurrent to your acupuncture visit, you can see the TCM practitioner for free. That’s pretty much the only reason I ever went (and most of the herbs weren’t super expensive). Now, I didn’t do any herbs for fertility, although they did recommend it, but I DID do acupuncture when I came off the pill after 13 years and I was SHOCKED that I had regular 26-day cycles immediately with apparent ovulation and light periods.
I have NO idea if acupuncture helped — mostly, I like the attention and the endorphins and it costs me a $10 copay, so, whatever. But it most certainly didn’t hurt me, and it didn’t hurt my wallet. Plus, scientific studies have shown even a placebo to be 30% effective. In other words, my experience was a great success (we also conceived the first cycle we TTC after 3 months of charting FAM for avoidance), whether it was woo woo magics or not.
