Hey bees! Today marks my 21st day with the Nexplanon Birth Control! (It’s inserted into your non-dominant arm) I sometimes see ladies on here asking about different types of BC, so I thought I would offer my story. I know I’ve not had it long, but I can tell you what I’ve experienced so far.
The day I got mine my arm was pretty sore, but not unbearable, especially since you have to keep the wrap on it for 24 hours. After the 24 hours rolled around and the wrap was off I was surprised that the bruise wasn’t as bad as I was expecting. It was pretty gnarly, don’t let me confuse you, but when I compared my bruise to other’s on the internet, it was pretty good. The level of your bruise just depends on your doctor. So, other than the bruise my arm was sore for about 3-4 days, but after that, nothing. The bruise went away after about 10 days. You can’t even see where it is in my arm, but you can feel it, and it feels weird!
Okay, so my period was supposed to start last week, but it never came. I called me doctor, and she ensured me it was completely normal. She said some women have completely crazy periods for the first 3-6 months then it regulates, some women remain normal, and a few don’t have any at all for the entire 3 years that they have the implant. I’ve still not had my period, and I don’t even feel like I’m going to start. Before they put the implant in, yuou have to have a pregnancy test done, so at least I know I am not pregnant. Now, we just wait to see what happens with my period.
I have lost some sex drive, sadly. It makes me husband feel a little bad, but once we start I don’t want to stop, so I guess you could say you lose the initial sex drive, but then you really want it once you start. Oh, and I’ve been gassy a little ever since I got my implant in. I’m not sure what that’s about, but they say it’s common. I’ve not gained any weight yet, but I haven’t had any appetite either, so I don’t see myself gaining weight, and my face is actually more clear now than before the implant. It is progestin only, so I like that about it, too.
I hope this helps some of you!
