We are doing cake tasting this weekend for the first time and I can’t wait! The first wedding planning decision that we made was to have a chocolate cake. 🙂 I think it’s likely that we will end up with a chocolate/raspberry cake.
What kind of cake are you having (or what other dessert)? Will it be a flavor combination, or all one flavor?

Make sure you try a few places if you can 🙂 That way you know you made the right choice! OR because cake is delicious.
I knew I wanted 3 flavors of cake with buttercream frosting over it. We decided on almond cake with cappuchino mousse, chocolate cake with chocolate pudding and lemon cake with raspberry filling.
I am so excited for the cake, I think it will be perfect. Everyone will have a flavor they will like to eat and it will look pretty and be super tasty.

@manako: We are planning on trying at least a few places. 🙂 All of my married friends have told me that this was their favorite part of wedding planning, and as a dessert enthusiast, I can see why!
Your cake flavors sound amazing! And like you said, that is a great range that will please everyone.

We havent decided yet but I’m working on it. I want to have the top tier cake (the one we cut into) be cheesecake because Fiance and I both hate cake except for cheesecake but the other tiers would have to be something different because both sides of our family arent as crazy about cheesecake like we are. My mother thinks it would be neat to have the cake for the top tier and the remaining tiers be cupcakes but I’m not 100% sold on this idea.

We haven’t finalized our flavors yet but we have agreed on what style of cake I will make.

I have a co-worker baking my cake, but we haven’t talked about anything yet. I should get on that.

We decided to do cupcakes instead- I couldn’t pick just one or two flavors! Pearl’s Cupcake Shoppe is an adorable little local bakery, and we have used them for other events. They have been consistently amazing!

We did vanilla cake with bavarian cream filling. Delish! I would have loved a raspberry filling but my husband didn’t go for that.

@DaneLady: Thank you for the recommendation! Richmond is too far for us, though. I will have to check it out the next time I am there, though! Their cupcakes look so delicious.

Damn you all! Now I want cake! We arent at that stage of our wedding planning but we might have to go ahead and jump on it when we go down to New Orleans for a friends wedding. It will really be our only time to get down there so might make a couple of appointments to get our cake on!

@NCPwedding: Do it!! Hooray for cake!

We went with dark chocolate cake layers with white chocolate mousse and raspberry sauce and a dense almond cake with the same filling. All covered in white chocolate buttercream.

Our cake was amaaaazing! It was alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla with canoli filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. Darling Husband was adament about having canoli filling which was a bit of a challenge for our baker since it requires some special care and what not but it was totally worth it. Our guests said that it was the best cake they’d ever had.
