Our venue is also government owned and requires that we have liability insurance; they offer it to us for $1 per guest attending.
You may want to check up with the venue on exactly what specific coverage you need outside of the value. It may end up being easier going through wedsafe.
I had to get a policy but we were advised to get it through Wedsaf. I think it was $195 for $1mill of coverage.
I used to be an insurance agent for AAA and we would provide event liability coverage on a per-event basis as a rider to the policy. It was not an extra charge but the liability would match whatever you were already carrying on your homeowner's policy so in your case, you would have to up your liability coverage to 1mill if you're not carrying that already (the cost to increase liability is normally pretty minimal though). However, AAA would not provide this rider if any alcohol would be served at the event which can be difficult for weddings to meet. This may just be a AAA policy, but it is something to be aware of.
Thanks everybody! daydreamer33, they require a $2M alcohol liability. So looks like it won't work w/ AAA either :( I do have car insurance through an AAA agent but the company is Progressive, and Progress doesn't even offer home owner's insurance.
travelers is probably in the $150 to $200 range for just liability insurance. www.protectmywedding.com

Our venue is city owned and they required that I (personally) have a $1M liability insurance and add them to the policy.
I found out my home insurance company doesn't offer this. (Maybe I am not phrasing the question correctly there?)
Somebody who answered this thread said she got it for less than $10 by adding a rider to her home insurance. Has anybody else gone through that route, if so, what insurance company do you have?

I'd rather switch my home insurance company than to have to pay $250 for a wedsafe 1 day policy. Any sugestions? Thanks!
