I just found this funny…
We’re having 2 long banquet tables for 100 people, which means that everyone has to have an assigned SEAT (as opposed to just assigned tables). Several couples are coming with babies and/or children, including a lady I’ll call, Mrs. X. So, not that babies and children are a burden or anything–I love them, but not everyone does. Darling Husband and I spent an awful lot of time worrying about them–they’d sit between their parents, but who was going to have to sit across from a baby or a 4 year-old? (For the record, yes, we considered coralling all the children at one end of a table, but that didn’t solve the baby dillemma, since they had to be near their parents) What about the single mom–who was going to sit next to the baby on the OTHER side? One of my good friends saw the seating chart in progress and said immediately, “You had better keep me the hell away from anyone under 4-feet tall. No kids, no babies, and no nappy-talk!” So there we were, scratching our heads at who was going to have to be the one to sit across from/next to the kids?
We were still standing there when I got a call from Mrs. X, who indeed has a very sweet 1yo: “Oh, and if you’ve got a boring section of the table, just go ahead and sit Baby X right next to them. She’ll for sure make the conversation lively and get everyone talking!”
We just started laughing. Life must be different when you’re a parent…
