My Groom has his eye on a light grey amazing suit for our wedding, and we would like the groomsmen in shades of grey or greyish taupe or seomthing light and summery. The groomsmen have charcoal suits already. I had wanted to avoid dark colors.
My question: Would it be unreasonable to ask them to buy lighter color suits if we can find soemthing comparable to the bridesmaids dresses in price? I’ve found some possibilities at Macy’s, but I’m not sure how much is too much to ask someone to spend.
Or do you think it’s alright to have the grooms men in much darker suits than my groom? My Maid/Matron of Honor would also prefer to wear dark charcoal over the lighter grey/taupe dresses I favor. Is this a nitpicky point? I mean, they’ll still be in grey, and will look nice.
I don’t mind if everyone is in a different shade of grey/taupe. I love the mismatched bridal party look better than strictly matching, even, but I just really wanted lighter shades so the effect is summery and happy.
Advice would be great! I really want all of the bridal party to feel comfortable and not overburden them at all.

If you really want the lighter shades and uniformity I would suggest asking them to rent the suits not buy. Buying is too expensive.
But if you don’t care, and you actually love the mistmatched bridal party look then I would tell them to just bring there dark different shades of gray suits! It will save them money.

I don’t really have any advice but if you do decide to have them get new suits I would definitely look into JC Penney. Our groomsmen bought gray suits from there for less than $150 which is much cheaper than any rentals we found. Here’s a picture of my husband’s suit:
Also, I think if you like the mismatched look then just go for it. A mix of light and dark could be nice if you like that kind of look!

There is no worng choice. If they already have charcoal suits and you can work with that, great. If you can find a suit for close to the cost of the BM’s dress, that is fair too. Either way, the groom will stand out.
Several bees have had custom suits made by http://www.studiosuits.com . Do a search here on the Bee for reviews.
Last year JC Penney had grey suits – their Stafford line- at a very reasonable price- something like $150? for the suit. They don’t offer grey now but likely will again in the spring.

Thank you all so much! $150 is completely reasonable! And that suit looks fantastic on your husband. It’s also cheaper than any rentals I’ve found, and about the same as the bridesmaids dresses I’m looking at!
But I also like the ieda of the Groom standing out – that’s a great photo.

I also forgot to mention that none of the groomsmen wore the vest, just my husband! The gues wore the pants, jackets, white shirts, and green ties.
