We ordered a custom gobo monogram (about $70) and our DJ (Admit 1) had a gobo projector light that the monogram fits into. The gobo monogram plate is very tiny, about the size of a quarter, and you send in your artwork and they cut it out with a laser. Then the light shines through it to project the image. You can google "custom gobo" to find places to have it made. Check with your DJ to make sure he has a light that can do this, and what size disk it takes.
Wow, I would have never guessed! And what a great price! Her I was thinking it was going to cost hundreds of dollars...
Depending on who you hire, it CAN cost multiple hundreds of dollars! If your DJ doesn't have this equipment (and many of them don't), then you might have to go through a lighting company, they charge a min of $200+ for the monogram gobo.
The least expensive lighting company i have found is Chicago Lighting Design (I am a wedding planner so I've looked around)
UPDATE: The place where we purchased our gobo plate was Barbizon Lighting Company, located in Chicago. If you go with Admit One I know for sure they have the right kind of light.
We used Frost Lighting but instead of a monogram, we opted for hangining votives over the dance floor. You can see pictures at pictage.com search Hamblen Blodgett wedding and use the event key of Laura. Unfortunately, the pictures don't do them justice. Several of our guests mentioned they felt like they were dancing under stars.

I saw pictures of a wedding where the couple had their names written in lights on the Dance floor as well as pictures of Roses, and I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about getting that!? I am getting married in the suburbs. I can't seem to get it off my mind! That's something people would definitely remember. Thoughts?
