I vote for the limo! I had my wedding in the city last August. My church was on 38th and Park and my venue was on 17th and Park - about one mile away - We got one stretch escalade and a limo for close family. The esclade made two trips to the church (my hubby and his groomen first) and then me (and my bridemaids second). It also took us around the city (to central park) to take pictures.
So I guess it depends about what you are doing for pictures - that is one of the reasons we needed it.
@lauren810c: which limo service did you use? Did they require a certain number of hours to make your reservation?
I used Star City Limo - I called a bunch of places and they were by far the most reasonable..everything went smoothly as well..
OMg please no NYC subway in pretty wedding dresses (yikes)!!
I would take the cabs over the subway if a limo is not an option. I think it would make for nice pictures also.

To brides who live in big cities with easily accessible trains/cabs and are having a semi-formal to formal wedding:
If my church and reception are only a mile away aka a few train stops, is it okay to not provide transportation for my wedding party? I know it will probably be uncomfortably hot for a summer wedding to take the train but I am wondering if I should just pay for a few cabs rather than $$$ to drive 10 minutes.
I can afford the limo but just feel like it is a waste and I could splurge even more on gifts or something else but don't want to be a bad host. If we were in the suburbs, I would definitely provide transportation but want to hear the plans or past experiences of other city brides...
