What are your experiences on renting and/or buying the below?

    • Table runners and/or linens
    • Cylinder and/or Hurricane vases all sizes

My Vase Thoughts = I don’t know how much they cost per vase. There is this great site I learned about from another thread http://www.save-on-crafts.com/cylindervases.html and vases in all sizes seem quite reasonable. Then I thought I would motor on over to Ikea and check out there mini votive vases for the tables.  Would I save money to rent them? I don’t even know what the ball park figure is, if I were to rent them.  Do you girls have a clue?????

Linen Thoughts = I don’t really have any thoughts here to be honest. I looked into a rental company here in Seattle called ABC Special Events and Pintucks are $30 for 120” rounds their Sashes (7”x105” I am assuming table runners) are $2.50 – now that seems so odd. Of course I would rent table runners (aka Sashes) if they’re $2.50.  Then they have Iridescent Crush, and those are $24 for 120” rounds and their runners (aka Sashes 6”x105”) are $2.00…

HELP ME PLEASE - - if you have experience with this…..Thank You So Much!!!!!

I would love to hear an answer on this too.  I have not priced them out either but my three options are Ikea, online or rental.  The website you mentioned is where I have seen a ton of ladies buy their vases.

I haven't decided on vases yet. If I go with a florist, they will supply them. My venue already had a lot of the decor set up and we can interchange items with what we want. I just have to figure out what I want.

For linens, I went to Trendy Events/Beta Mansions in Tacoma. Crystal is very nice and didn't push me into anything. She was very helpful and had a couple of tables already set up for me when I went based on what my colors are and what I thought I wanted. They were very nice displays.

The table at my venue are different sizes, so my order is a little different. You can visit her site at http://trendyeventrentals.com/

I suggest that you call her and talk to her about what you are looking for. Chances are she will be less expensive than what you are looking at. Ask her if she can give you a discount. I am sure she probably will. If you want to pm me, I will give you my name, so you can say that I referred you to her. I don't know if that would help, but it couldn't hurt.

I have no experience, but I plan on buying the supplies to make my centerpieces (vases, glasses, etc) mainly because of Williamsburg Pottery Outlet - I can get a bunch for cheap! Plus I have two sisters who have yet to get married, and my mom's fine with storing stuff so we have something to work with when their time rolls around! As for linens, I'll be renting them. The reception venue offers a bunch of linens in different colors that will fit their tables, so I'm doing that!

We are buying and reselling our own table runners and vases. My mom found some very inexpensive, really perfect fabric at Joann's and so she is painstakingly making a billion runners! (We are doing them short-ways sort of like placemats, so we need a bunch). Not including her time and labor, they will cost about $2 a runner, which is much cheaper than the prices we were quoted. We are going to try to sell them for more to compensate for her hard work, so in the end we will hopefully not be out any money! We are using the plain white tablecloths from our rental company.

As for vases, we are using low square vases, and also have many of those - probably more than 50, since we are clustering them together on the tables. Our florist doesn't carry those vases so she would charge us $7 a vase. We have found them a bunch of places - Joann's, Old Time Pottery, The Dollar Store - from $1 to $5. And then we get to keep them and sell them for hopefully close to what we paid for them, so again, a big savings.

Still, its a lot of work! If you are really on a budget, I'd say its worth it, but it would probably be much easier to rent.

I would buy them.  Michael's or Hobby Lobby has vases for pretty cheap if you can use the 40% off coupons.  I bought mine through those stores.

FYI- it can be hard to sell everything though afterward.  I've been trying for awhile and no one seems interested.  It is too much money to ship heavy vases so I've been trying to sell them locally.  My town is unfortunately too small.  I've had lots of interest in the big city an hour and a half away from me, but it is so hard to get up there to sell things.

Hobby Lobby - looks like the best place to find these goods. I just went onto their site and ARGH they don't have any stores in WA, CA, OR, NV....go figure!!!!!

If you decide to buy, check Craigslist.  I always see tons of linens and vases from weddings on there for next to nothing.  Usually, they were only used for the wedding and haven't been touched since.  You might find that it's much cheaper than buying.  Good Luck!

I just bought all my vases from Ikea. They had the square ones that I wanted for centerpieces and they were $2.50 each.

I actually just bought linens yesterday - I was looking at local rental companies and they were only like $7.50 - $8.25 per tablecloth (I'm doing rectangular tables but they also had round) but they only had plain ivory and I wanted something with a little flair. My mom ended up finding this great ebay store:

    http://stores.ebay.com/YescomUSA_Tablecloths-Napkins_W0QQ_fsubZ1354824015QQ_sidZ46245575QQ_trksidZp4634Q2ec0Q2em322.

I bought the table cloths and napkins for just slightly more than I would have rented them for but I LOVE the scalloping/lace-looking edges. My mom is also making table runners with fabric that we got at Joann's for 40% off.
