@MsGinkgo:  i wanted to see them in person to make sure they were the shade i was looking for as I didn’t want things to clash. I would suggest speaking to your venue to see what they can do for you since you can’t miss work. my whole thing is, you are paying them over a few thousand dollars, they should be able to accomodate YOU!

I made sure I saw things in person, not just for color but also for quality.

@MsGinkgo:  I did a complete mock-up of the table scape including linens, flowers, tableware, and flatware. I would not be comfortable not seeing the linens in person first. My wedding planner chose a different linen and I hated it. If I had those linens at my wedding I would have been pissed.

Take the time to go see them in person 🙂

@MsGinkgo:  Our venue offers white and ivory linens included.  I really wanted gray tablecloths with white napkins and tablerunners, and lavender accents.  So I ordered online and am anxiously awaiting seeing them in person.  I think they should be delivered today, so I’ll know sooner rather than later, but I can’t help but worry a bit about the quality and color consistency.

@MsGinkgo:  I went to see mine in person yesterday. It was a lot of fun. Our rental place was hosting a “Linen Launch Event” when I went in and I got 30% off everything. It was nice to see everything put together on the table. We played around with a lot of different combinations. I think it was worth it.

This was the set up we went with in their mock up area..Even in this photo the table overlay which is a dusty purple/lilac doesn’t show up as nice as it does in person (cell phone pic). So to me, it was worth it to pick it out in person. It was also a better match in seeing it in person than by looking on their website though that was pretty close.

I went and saw them in person because I wasn’t sure on what combo I wanted and needed to see it in person. I just couldn’t visualize it. It really helped because we ended up doing something completely different than what I had originally come up with.

@MsGinkgo:  I made an appointment with my decorator and saw everything in person before agreeing to anything. I’m a visual person though!

I’m in the same situation, outside caterer who’s coordinating linens through a third party.  And no, I won’t be seeing them.  The website showed color samples and there were like 10-15 to pick from.  I knew I wanted purple and there were only two shades (light and dark) so it was pretty easy.

I haven’t seen them yet, but honestly it’s one of those things that I really can’t be bothered with.  Even if I had the option I probably wouldn’t.  What’s the worst that can happen; they’re slightly darker than I expected?  A bit more matte or shiney?  These are not things that are going to matter in the long run to me.  I’m just taking this as a victory, one thing that was actually easy to do.

I just chose my linens last week, I chose them from about 10 different giant books of linens the company offered at our venue.  I’m happy I saw them in person because now I know the exact shade, there were about 20 different “champagne” ones and even more “gold” and probably 10 “black” linens.

Our venue doesn’t offer floor length linens and what they do offer are only black and white. I ended up ordering a sample navy blue silk floor-length one from linentable cloth to do a full mockup. While I have not yet done a full mockup I will say seeing them in person has solified the decision for me – they are gorgeous!

@MsGinkgo:  I saw everything in person before making decisions.  Just ask the linen company to send you samples!

We flew completely by the seat of our pants. We ordered everything online and the colors came in WAY darker than we anticipated, and since we didn’t have time to really do anything about it, it basically changed the colors of our wedding.

Don’t do what we did. It’s a super expensive and disappointing mistake.
