Was just wondering when yall started purchasing pretty, intimate items? And how yall went about the process? I’m about 4 months out from the wedding and have been debating starting a collection of sorts. Not sure if its too soon…if there is even such a thing as being too soon? Some of yall have read my previous posts and know that I tend to be a bit on the bashful side about these things, but I’ve been slowly trying to broaden my perspective. Maybe buying something cute once a month to just build positivity regarding embarking on future intimacy with Fiance. Do yall shop online or in stores? VS? Department stores? Can one even try on lingerie in department stores?
I come from a pretty conservative atmosphere so I have no idea if I’ll be gifted anything…plus, it would probably be awkward since my mother would attend the Bridal Shower if one is thrown on my behalf-not sure if that is happening either.
I’m just trying to adopt a positive perspective and thought maybe it would be kinda fun to do something fun for myself. Any suggestions are welcome!

It depends a lot on your budget and where you live, as well as what you feel like wearing. I’m a year out from my wedding, and I’ve already bought my wedding night lingerie. I don’t see anything wrong with starting a collection four months out.
I’m not from a conservative background, but I find vs kind of tacky. The stores are loud and overwhelming as well.Tons of polyester, push up bras, etc. What makes me feel sexy is silk slips, sheer lace bra and panty sets, sheer nightgown.
I would go explore lingerie stores around you. See what you like! I’ve never not been able to try something on, but I would wear my own underwear under the ones I’m trying on.
Eberjay is a brand I really like for sheer, comfy, sexy bras. My fiancé really likes the stuff I have from there. Oh I have a slip with lace from there as well.
Lille boutique is a store in Portland, Oregon. I’m not from Portland, but this is my favourite lingerie store! They ship, but I would recommend trying some styles on first to figure out what you like!

eagertowedanon23: I didn’t have much of a lingerie collection before getting married either (also conservative background). Thankfully, my sister threw me a bachelorette party the day before the wedding. Just a little get together with my closest female relatives and friends where we had snacks and played games, but on the invitation to each of the girls she put this poem:
“Please bring something frilly or something nice, Something to give their honeymoon a little spice.”
And then she included my bra/panty size on the invite. It was really awesome because I got a nice variety of stuff. Family got me cute silky PJs to wear to bed and best friends from college got me the more racy items ;p It was so much more than I could have handled shopping for on my own. Even if your mom is going to be there, I would suggest asking whoever is throwing the bachelorette party for you to do something like this. Your mom knows you are about to get married and what that entails 🙂 She might even surprise you and get you something too!
Aside from that, you can go to almost any clothing store – Ross, Nordstrom Rack, Macy’s, depending on your price point to find cute things. Target also regularly stocks “bridal” lingerie that is white and frilly and usually says “bride” on it in rhinestones or something haha. But it’s cute.
You will definitely find things at VS, but you will also pay well for it. Their staff is great at helping you shop though, so it might be a good place to start the process.

eagertowedanon23: oh and yes, you can try on lingerie in dept. stores. Just try the bottoms on over top of your own panties. And make sure to wash anything you buy before you wear it in case someone else didn’t do the courtesy of trying it on over their clothes…ew.

I got a whole bunch of victoria secret gift cards from my bridal shower so I just went there last week and bought myself a cute little babydoll lingerie set to wear for after the wedding. I’m assuming I might already get some lingerie at my Bachelorette party since my BMs told me they were too shy to get it for me for my Bridal shower since moms and aunts are there.
If I hadn’t gotten the gift cards, I would have just gone out on a day or two and done a day of shopping for things like that. They aren’t cheapt though I have to say. If I am going to be spending that kind of money I might as well make it worth it and get something that’s out of this world.

eagertowedanon23: If you have never gotten properly sized, I recommend going to a department store and getting one of the associates to get your correct bra size so you don’t end up buying a ton of lingerie in the incorrect size. Other than that, only buy for your comfort level–if you don’t want to a buy an elaborate maid-looking thing from VS (for example), don’t.
I recently discovered Journelle (journelle.com) and they have a lot of delicate lacey things I’ve got my eye on! Another brand I’ve fallen in love with is Natori, but they are a little pricey. However, I have found that with my size I have better luck at a department store than VS (do not take personally VS lovers!!!!) 🙂

Definitly depends on your budget. IMO Victoria’s Secret is junk…their stuff has gotten so cheap and trashy. I would check out Nordstrom or Neimans (if you have one in your area.) I also really like Agent Provocateur, but they can be a tad on the expensive side.
I agree with the previous poster that Journelle is great!

GG_Vega: I have lightly browsed some of the VS stuff, and nothing really appealed to me. Their silk cami’s were nice, but for 50 bucks….thats a tad steep. I’ll have to check out Nordstrom Rack or Journelle or sure!
Cammy99: Thanks for the recommendation, especially to get sized so everything fits well! Makes sense.
franklyn: Thanks for the encouragement! Its officialy August, so at 4 months away, I think my shopping is justified at this point. I’ll definetely have to check out EberJay and LillieBoutique.

Like you, I am very conservative and have been embarrassed to shop for/purchase such things, but I am getting over it. I am getting married, and buying such things is normal. 🙂
