Hey bees... my girls have settled on a lingerie shower which I have been on board with since the beginning stages of the planning process. I am only inviting family and close friends so it is not something that I would be shy about. But I just wanted some input on how lingerie showers are taken by guests. I have never been to one but I can imagine that it might be a bit strange for guests to buy lingerie for another person lol. ALso, the invites that I have been looking at... they put the girls sizes at the bottom of the invite.. like... 34D. XS. Is that normal?

i received one invite to a lingerie shower and it was disguised a "honeymoon shower", but i  figured it really meant lingerie since her sizes were given like you mentioned.  i didn't think it was weird - well it was only weird for me because it was being held the night before her wedding and i wasn't invited to the wedding! so i didn't go the shower, but had it not been for that, i would have been fine with it and bought her something.

I had one and LOVED it!  It was so much fun, but it was just my bridesmaids and a few close girlfriends, so we had a blast with our girly drinks and stuff.  It honestly was more like a girls night out than anything.

My girls put my sizes down too so guests knew what size I would need.  One thing I would suggest is also including a size for one-piece type lingerie (like babydoll type).  Some girls took my bra/undies size and bought according to whatever was biggest when it came to some outfits, so they ended up being too big because my top is smaller than my bottom.  Normally, I buy according to my bra size, but I guess that got lost in translation.  It was fine, just required some returns/exchanges, but live and learn. :)

I've told my MOH that I want a lingerie shower! I haven't been to one, though.

It is customary for the brides I know to have a lingerie shower.  The ultimate girly-girl bridal party, 2nd only to the bridesmaid's luncheon.

We give them usually a month before the wedding date.  It is unlike a bachelorette party in that everything purchased is tasteful and classy.  No "toys", etc. (Remember grandmothers may be present too!! LOL)

The usual invitees are the bridesmaids, mothers, grandmothers, close friends, aunts, close friends of the MOB or MOG who are also close with the bride-to-be.

We always include the brides sizes on the back of the invitation or on a separate card included with the invitation.

The MOB usually gives the traditional white bridal peignoir or lingerie set.

Everyone else usually purchases chemises, bra/panty sets, panties, robes, etc.

A couple of fun games are played.  Food includes maybe small sandwiches and other hors d'oerves and a fun lingerie shower themed cake.

When purchasing lingerie for someone else---I strongly recommend getting a gift receipt!!

I planned one for the start of my sister's bach party. Everyone had a ton of fun with it. She got some nice sweet things and some naughty things. But everyone loved it. I had a cute invite that looked like a nighty and included her sizes.

@MrsNeutrino:  i had a lingerie shower and it was amazing! it was the first of my showers and it was so much fun. it'd definitely normal for them to put your sizes on the invitation (so guests know what size clothing to buy you). i loved all the stuff i got and i use it all! everyone had really great taste :)

I've been invited to two and didn't go to either one. I personally felt a little strange being asked to figure out what type of lingerie my friends would wear (and the appropriate size). I ended up sending both a Victoria Secret gift card with my apologies as to why I couldn't come (had volleyball).

My friends that did attend said that one was awkward and the other was fine so I guess it just depends on the overall guests and their comfort levels.

We are just adding this onto my sister's bachelorette party. A good little game to go with it is for all the guests to "name" each outfit. Then cards are made with the names on them and the groom pulls them out of a hat or whatever and that night she will wear that outfit.

I'm doing more of a lingerie party after the "normal" shower, but I've been to one that was a shower before and the sizes were given on the invite.

I've been to one for a friend and it was a lot of fun!  The host invited us to buy something WE would wear/like, and the bride had to guess who gave what gift- with fun 'newlywed game'-ish questions to answer when she guessed wrong.

@MrsNeutrino:  I think they are so much fun and can be done really tastefully! Several of my friends and I have all had them in lieu of a traditional bachelorette party because it was more our speed. At each one, we hung up a clothesline and clipped each piece of lingerie to it as we opened gifts. I have felt a little awkward shopping for my super modest friends, but they all got beautiful stuff and so did I!

@mrscheetos:  ok good... now if only my measurements were as impressive as 34D, XS lol...... if only...

@Grizz:  that actually sounds like a really good idea! lol!

@JBing:  oh god... the questions my friends would ask me.................................i dont even want to know what they would come up with. What kinds of questions were asked of the bride? lol

I have been to one of these and it was so much fun! The bride even opened all of the gifts and held them each up in a nice restaurant... I don't think I would do this personally, but it was a riot. She even got some fun gifts like underwear for two.

Putting the size on is normal. How else would guests know what to buy?

Provided you have a good set of family and friends who you feel comfortable with, it should be fun.
