Hi,
I LOVE this idea. I think it is so wonderful- plus, your guests will have something from your wedding that will live on, that will continue to bloom and grow- I think it is lovely!
I was going to do this for my wedding, but my ideas slowly took a different turn, in order to minimize. (Now I am using mainly candles and candelabras.)
You could have them in matching pots- that would be perfect. Good luck!
I don't have photos, but I went to one where teh centerpieces were all potted plants in cute little customized planters. There was some sort of game (only took 2-3 min...something about people dancing around the table I think?) to determine who "won" the plant at each table and could take it home at the end of the night. I think it's a great "green" option if you don't want to give up fresh flowers.
I think potted plants are a great cneterpiece idea. They are eco-friendly (and cost friendly) compared to to cut flowers. You can also work on them ahead of time!
@jordynrose, What's the source for photo 4? The really colorful one? I REALLY like that one.
I think I would do this, and under each pot have different criteria
beep beep? Sorry. I'm really intersted in seeing more photos like #4. hehe
I def thought about doing this!
Other options include potted herbs or succulents. To save $$ if you have time buy just the seeds and cheap pots from Dollar Store!
If we were having a wedding in our home town I would have definitely done this. We love plants and gardening so it would have worked out well.
I'm seriously considering doing dwarf evergreen trees as part of my centerpiece:

well i love the idea of potted plants, i think that if the wedding is in spring, summer or even fall that will work so great
Oh my goodness, you ladies are AMAZING! I just got back to the boards after a busy day and found so much great inspiration put together by you all! Thanks so so much! I also love succulents and think they'd be a great idea! I really like the dwarf evergreen and apple centerpiece too! And the ones with the colorful little pots! And the idea of live herbs! So many options! Thanks again all!!!
I am hoping to do wheatgrass with some flowers on top. I know that wheatgrass is suuuuuper easy to grow and I figure it will be easier than growing all the flowers.I plan to order my flowers from a wholesaler and just loosely place them on top of the wheatgrass. Here's the inspiration for what i am doing.
Here's a pic I found last night. They took a potted orchid and added white flowers(carnations?) into the pot to jazz it up. To add more interest, you can have even more white flowers in the pot cascading out onto the table
totally thought about doing the potted plant (three different herbs) center pieces, but i would have been more work for us and costed about the same if we just bought more traditional flower cp... still love the idea though! =)
I'm now on the hunt for vintage tins! They look so stinkin' awesome!
Are there flowers that continuosly bloom? Or would I need to plant them with the right timing to bloom for a wedding?
I'll have some photos for you in 5 months :-)
We're going the potted route. Orchids, mums and maybe some greenery. Home Depot . . . here I come!
I would not recommend using flowers that you pot from seeds to use as centerpieces. Because you can never quite tell with flowers when they will bloom. There are times they should be blooming but you never quite know.
I would recommend maybe more of a house plant like a African Violet that continually blooms?
If you can't find vintage tins, heres a link to vintage labels you can print and put on new tins for the vintage look. http://www.i-do-it-yourself.com/2010/01/free-fillable-vintage-labels/
I was at a wedding years ago that used potted flowers and it was lovely. They actually had the pots wrapped in colored foil like a poinsetta at Christmas. I remember that they had pink blooms in pink foil and I think they used pink rose petals sprinkled on the table to add to the look... It was sweet and simple!
I love these ideas! On a slightly different note... I am the maid of honor in my sister's wedding and I'm trying to think of some fun bridal shower favors for the guests. I was thinking of small potted plants that would bloom around the time of the wedding. The shower's in May. Is it feasible to time such things? If so, which plants would take 3 months to bloom...in August?
@Miss Biner: the picture you asked about is from Martha Stewart Weddings

Has anyone used live potted plants as table centerpieces? If so, could you post pictures? Someone suggested this to me recently, but I've never seen it done before. I'm trying to picture how it would look. I love orchids, so maybe doing potted orchids that people could take home afterwards would work. I'd love to see any pictures :-) Thanks so much!
