Hello all! I've been engaged for over a month now (still can't keep the goofy grin off my face) and am just starting the planning. We've got an 11/12/11 date. Looking for some tips on Livonia area halls. I've spoken with someone from Joy Manor, I know it doesn't look like much from the outside, but the interior pics looks nice. also, have checked into pricing at Hawthorne Valley and another church reception hall (can't think of the name right now, maybe Sacred Heart?). Anyone deal with these places? Any pros or cons about them?

    Congratulations on your engagement :D

We had out HS prom at Laurel Manor in Plymouth, and it worked out really well. Also, I saw Plymouth Manor Banquet and Conference Center setup for a reception when I went dress shopping at the boutique next door. I don't know how far those are from your ceremony site...

Sorry I can't give you more feedback on the sites you listed. Good luck!

Congrats on your engagement! :) :)

My best advice would be to pick up a copy of 'The Knot - Michigan'... they have SO many different reception halls and local vendors listed for the detroit area.  The weddingbee venue listings also might be quite helpful.

For the ones that you listed, Joy Manor has really nice ballrooms, but no real view/atmosphere... it would be up to you to make it unique!  Hawthorne CC is a nice place too (I think recently renovated?) There are SO many other places in the area though, if you're not in love with either of those keep looking until you find something you really click with that fits your price.  I went to a detroit wedding that was on the water and the facility was gorgeous! (Can't remember name though, sorry!)

    Hope that helps.

I think Burton Manor is pretty nice too. My fiance and I just went up there on Saturday (around 2 or 3 pm) and just walked around looking at the rooms. It was cool because people were setting up for wedding so you could see how it would looks for a wedding.

We checked out Laurel Manor and the only thing I can say about them is if you go and talk to someone there, DON'T give out your email address. I did that not even thinking and seriously the next day I was getting spammed like crazy from the vendors they recommended. You should also check out St. Mary's Cultural & Banquet Center. Went to a wedding there a few years ago and it was really cool. Good food, good prices.

I know this thread was started a while ago, but I'll add my 2 cents incase it helps...

I am getting married in August at Warren Valley Golf and Banquet in Dearborn Heights (Beech Daly and Warren Roads). It's super close to Livonia, and they provide a beautiful ceremony area AND banquet room. I picked it because 1) it's close! and 2) I could have the ceremony and reception in the same place so people aren't driving all over the place. The pricing was just right for us because it included an open bar and tax/gratuity. So if anyone is looking for a venue close to Livonia, check out Warren Valley!

Ha I just saw the date too but oh well... I am having my reception at Joy Manor. It's not much to look at from the outside but inside is nice. I wouldn't suggest Laurel Manor, the girl there basically said "take your budget and add $5,000." Umm no a budget is a budget give or take a few... and I mean a few. Plus, they didn't give you a choice of meals, and whatever you chose is how much the price was going to be. Joy Manor gave you a menu and let you choose from a list. Plus, you are able to use any centerpieces and linens you want, in any color.
