is it normal for a jeweler to be able to change a stone on the spot? I’m getting a loose moissanite sent to replace the CZ in my ring and I’m hoping that I’ll be able to take it somewhere to have it done in an afternoon.
From your experience do places do this or do they have to send them away? Anyone know approximately how much it would cost?

it depends on the jelweler. Our jewler can do it but it usually takes him a few days. Some chain stores might have to send it in. You are best off calling a place that also will repair jewlery and they should be able to replace the stone for you no problem.

yep! mine took 20 minutes. It may take longer if the cz was a different size/shape than the moissanite you are setting, because that may require a prong adjustment.

thanks! It is the same shape and size 🙂 I was thinking about going from a 1.5 cz to a 1.25 moissanite, but then I figured…what the hell, you only live once so I stuck with 1.5!
Can I ask how much it cost you? I sent an email to a local jeweler that I think might be my best bet

@mcklough: It cost $100 to have it set because we didn’t purchase the setting or the diamond from him, if we had purchased the setting from him it would have been free. We also paid $50 to have him do an appraisal (which he mentioned normally costs $100) so that we could insure it.
You better post pictures when its all finished!
