Hi OC Bees!
My FH are still thinking of places to have our wedding and I was wondering where you were having your wedding? or Where places you would recommend?
Thank you in advance

Woot woot!  Finally an OC board.  I've been posting in LA.  There is a great place in fullerton on harbor blvd... but I've lost the name, I can post tomorrow with the name -- it is nice and very affordable.  My MOH was married there.

A friend of mine is getting married at Strawberry Farms in Irvine, it is a little expensive, but very nice.  I've been to two weddings at The Summit House in Fullerton, both were nice, the food was great, but they were small.

I'm getting married at UCLA, even though we live in Irvine.

Any criteria for what you're looking for?  Price, capacity, indoor/outdoor, ceremony or reception only?

We were looking for a relatively inexpensive, able to fit 150 guests, indoor, with space for ceremony and reception.  The Crystal Ballroom at the Holiday Inn Laguna Hills was perfect for us.

Oh I love Strawberry Farms, a good friend of mine was married there, but sadly FH doesn't like Irvine... he's weird hehehe.

I'm looking for something moderately priced, that is preferably not a golf course  b/c we're not big golfers and don't want our picture taken w/ the back nine ;)

So far we've talked about the Kellogg House @ Cal Poly Pomona, the OC Musuem of Art & Strawberry Farms (enough though it is a golf course I know it's not a typical one).

Caliotech did you go to UCLA? Is that where you two met?

We got married at www.rancholaslomas.com.  It was spectacular.

Because we are having approx. 300 people at our wedding it was hard for us to find a place.  We ended up going with the Hyatt of Orange County (in Garden Grove).

Here is the location I mentioned earlier:  Spring Field Banquet and Conference Center in Fullerton.

AliCherri1 -- No, my fiance went to UCLA and we are both teachers, so we wanted an education themed wedding.

Thank you Caliotech, I know that place is right down the street from where FH lived when I met him.

SoCalBeachGirl - Rancho Las Lomas is somewhere FH and I are considering, I'm happy to hear good things about it.

ok the venue on harbor in fullerton is springfield banquet center and tea house... it was great for my brother's wedding 8 years ago!

my wedding in august will be a the balboa yacht club... not to be confused with the balboa bay yacht club, and it's a very affordable waterfront venue!

oh sorry for the springfield duplicate... just saw that alicherri1 did get it to you!

the other thing i will say, is RLL is not the most budget friendly unless you would consider a day other than fri or sat (when you are required to use their expensive "preferred caterer" list).  otherwise you will spend a very pretty penny at rancho for fri and sat.

if you tell us your criteria, i can give many suggestions, i worked in events in college, i'd be happy to point you to some really great valued venues without compromising quality!

we're getting married at the betty reckas cultural center in long beach. ceremony and reception will be at the same place.

we tried looking for something reasonable that we liked in OC, but couldn't find anything that appealed to us :( we *almost* booked the westminster rose center in westminster.

both places are reasonably priced (around $30-$40ish for food).

JoieDeVie - Thank you so much for the offer!
We are looking for a Museum, Mansion, Restaurant...
We'd prefer not using a hotel or Golf Club b/c he used to work in hotel management and doesn't really want to deal with them.
Probably about 150 ppl
and
If you know of a place that would let us use our own caterer, THAT would be awesome.

Also, thank you so much to the other ladies as well, I really appreciate your suggestions.

I never found many places other than parks and community centers that allowed you to bring in your own caterer.  But here are a few more non-hotel and golf course suggestions with capacity for 150:

Aquarium of the Pacific - Very pretty

Harborside Pavilion - Lots of historical charm

Sherman Library and Gardens - Never visited it (we needed an indoor location), but my Mom attended a wedding there and says it's beautiful

The Summit House was another Mom recommendation I haven't visited

Tivoli Terrace is where they hold the Pageant of the Masters and Art Festival each year.  Tivoli also runs a few other properties.  Again, outdoors, but pretty.

AliCherri1, we picked Rancho Las Lomas because we did not want a typical ballroom wedding either!  The location is spectacular, everyone commented that they love how private it was.

We did ceremony & dinner outdoors in the Teatro, and for dancing & cake we turned the main house into a Lounge w/ big ottomans, cocktail tables, and a foosball & pool table for those non dancers.

Yes, they are expensive, and their required caterer has good food, but be prepared to spend $$$.  We opted to schedule our wedding on a Thursday, so we could bring in our own caterer who was also expensive, but we trusted to do a great job.

Our 175 guests had no probs w/ the Thurs. date, they all showed up on time and most stayed to the very end.  We just gave them a reason to take a long weekend :-).

PM me if you'd like more details on the venue.  For something similar, I've seen pictures of weddings at Rancho Capistrano in Laguna Niguel, it's beautiful but doesn't have the the full sticker shock of Rancho Las Lomas. www.ranchocapistrano.org

Hi! These postings are very helpful. I'm also looking at venues right now and Orange County is where i'm looking at. but i'm shocked and amazed at prices.  Although I guess I shouldn't be.  Initially, All i wanted was Rancho Las Lomas, but i realized its way out of my budget. For those of you who aren't on a budget and looking at 2009 (after april) www.pelicanhill.com is absolutely amazing.  I mean its a golf course, but its right on the cliffs.  If i had money to burn, I'd do it there. It's brand new, scenic and absolutely amazing...

So me being the bride on a tighter budget, I'm currently looking at Laguna Cliffs Marriot (www.lagunacliffs.com), Coto De Caza, Dove Canyon, Richard Nixon Library and possibly venturing more inland.

Any other good venues?  I'm almost tempted to just book my butt to the local park and calling the in n out truck and the taqueria guy to come cater... it's amazing how much everythign is at a premium once you say the word "wedding".

Looking forward to hearing anybody's suggestions!
