There is a very pretty children's park with waterfalls and fountains where I live and thats what we did. Perhaps some kind of botanical garden in your area?
I have no idea if they allow pictures here or not but the Getty Museum is a gorgeous location!
Try the Getty Center, Disney Concert Hall, Huntington Library, Arcadia Arboretum.
Hope that helps.
We're doing our at Point Fermin Lighthouse in San Pedro! Beautiful park, a cute cottagey lighthouse, and across the street up the hill is the Korean Friendship Bell that has a huge open green space with the Bell in the background should provide great pictures!
I also saw one of the bee bloggers use the alleys of Pasadena and the Pasadena courthouse as the background for their engagement session and the pictures came out amazing! but i can't remember who it was :(
The Lab in Costa Mesa is also a popular place for an edgy feel.
We had ours taken at the state parks in Malibu (on Las Virgines). We were also cotemplating Lake Balboa park (too crowded, unless on a weekday) and the Americana in Glendale (same issue). Good luck!
In addition to the Walt Disney Hall, there is also Union Station both in downtown LA. They are not too far from each other. That's what I did last year. PM me your email address if you want to see my engagement pics at these places.
Chinatown has some really great alleys for an urban look, and lots of interesting architecture too!

Can anyone recommend a good place to take engagement pics? No beaches because I want to wear heels. Thank you.
