Museums? Libraries? Have you checked out partyspace.com? They have some good unusual locations.
What about a sculpture garden like Grounds for Sculpture in New Jersey?Or a farm - I looked at a couple in the Hudson Valley.
We are getting married at the Brevard Zoo. They have a great pavillion area.
@caszos - what a beautiful location!
Are there any online planning sites near you where you can research locations? A planetarium sounds great. What about an art museum, a science center or zoo?
@ Girlwitharing - which farms have you looked at in Hudson Valley?
@caszos - thanks! that pavilion looks amazing! I hadn't really considered zoos until I saw this pic. Thanks for the suggestion!
I tried looking at rates for local science centers and unfortunately, just renting the space alone is too much of my total budget, so that's out.
I've also started thinking about doing more of a weekend get-away. We are going to check out the Full Moon Resort (Catskills) and Bear Mountain Inn next week to see how we can make it a sort of "destination" wedding, but within driving distance.
Thanks ladies!

Hi! I am recently engaged and I like things that are a bit off the beaten track. I'm looking for a ideas for a venue that might not typically be used for a reception. I've thought of maybe an acquarium, but a close friend actually is using that idea (and our weddings are going to be close together). Any thoughts on what else might work? Planetarium? Anything else?? I want to be able to offer my guests something more than just the wedding - fun activities. This has to be in the NY/NJ area. THANK YOU!!!
