I took photos in a park near Cherry Creek Mall but it got boring and repetative really quick. We also took photos at Garden of the Gods, and I thought that was dynamic and really fun!
Cherry Creek Reservoir has diverse backgrounds (the rocky side, the reservoir itself, the brush trails/equestrian trails, and the campgrounds) so I think that would be a great place for photos.
The front range could have some cool places too though, especially the CU campus, Flatirons Mall, Louiseville/Nederlands area.
Downtown Denver has some great B&W photo ops, and also looks great photographed at night. You would have to scout out your locations first though, I recommend 16th Street Mall and similar locations. The Mint DOESN'T allow photos! But Civic Center Park has some AWESOME ops with the Capitol and Civic Center in the background.
I don't know about the hotel photos...it doesn't really scream Denver, not a lot of people (even natives) know about the Brown Palace, the Broodmore, etc.
I wish your poll was multiple choice! But I chose the Front Range stuff. I'm partial to outdoors scenes. But my second choice would be CCR.
I picked downtown meaning LODO....I would love to do pics on 16th street or at the Tattered Cover,,,,my favorite bookstore.
We did them downtown, in and around the library and Civic Center park.
Also took some in front of Le Central on 8th and Lincoln (great colored walls)
And finally we went to the SW corner of Wash Park... lots of beautiful trees.
I've seen some gorgeous nighttime engagement photos in Larimer Square. I love the canopy of lights over the street.
Happilywaiting, you just described our engagement shoot! We did some shots in front of the Capitol building, then took the bus down the 16th street mall to the Tattered Cover in LoDo.
To be honest, we were a little bummed that we couldn't do a mountain shoot -- the only time we were in Denver before the wedding was December, and we decided a mostly-indoor shoot was the best option -- so I voted for the Front Range. But our downtown shoot turned out great, and if getting to the mountains is tough I think the 16th street mall, LoDo, and Larimer Square are all great options!
Thanks for all these great ideas!! Maybe I will just have to convince our photographer to traipse all over the Front Range with us to get all these great shots!
@MightySapphire: I am bummed they don't allow photos at the Mint! It is such a beautiful building! Good thing there are so many other options for shots downtown. And Garden of the Gods would be so amazing! Thanks for your input!
Mojito-
What fits your guys' personalities? Are you city people or mountain people? Go where you love and take your photog with you.
PS- Who are you using?
@MoSnow: I guess that is part of the problem -- we are city & mountain people! We live in Denver & love spending time in the city. But we both grew up in smaller cities & love the outdoors. We jeep & snowboard & ride horses & hike & camp & sail...but love to dress up for a night on the town. I think I need to do half a dozen engagement shoots. That might cover us.
We are using Jason Long for our engagement session(s). He is with JLong Photography.
I voted for Front Range, but I'm biased - we did ours in & around Estes Park. . . some by the river, some at the Stanley in Estes, and perhaps my favorites were at St. Catherine's church (also sometimes called St. Malo's.

Loralie, I think the Stanley Hotel would be a neat place for the photos! Plus you were able to take advantage of the beautiful scenery in Estes Park!
I don't know if you've already done the shoot, but our photographer did a shoot of another couple at Wash Park. It was really beautiful and incorporated the city & the mountains.
If you did, where did you end up having it?
Keely, we haven't done the shoot yet. I think we'll do the shoot in July or August. Who did you use as a photographer?
Mojito,
We are using Krista Johns of Artessa Photography. Her website is www.artessaphotography.com It was actually another couple's engagment shoot that was at wash park (here's the link to Krista's blog with their pics http://tinyurl.com/n5zpet ) We're going to wait and do our session in the fall.
Good luck! I'd love to know where you pick!
If you wanted a bit of variety but didn't want to go too far, I can think of 3 places you could hit in a day, in Golden. The Clear Creek History Park, downtown, would be cool and rustic and there's the creek right next to it, too. Then there's the RR museum, also in Golden, which could be cool--lots of old train engines for interesting, unusual shots. And finally, red rocks----'nuff said.
And actually, then you could head out to Golden Gate Canyon State Park for true hikig/mtn shots. The first 3 destinations are all within 10-15 minutes of each other, and GG State Park is about 30 minutes up the canyon.
I don't know if you've already had your pictures taken yet, but we did ours at Confluence Park/REI and the area right behind REI. It was a great place to have a mixture of nature shots mixed in with some really cool buildings around the area. We loved the spot!
Falfie, that sounds like a neat idea! I definitely want both urban and nature shots for our engagement photos. We took a couple casual shots up near Nederland last weekend & I definitely want to do more of our pics with nature!
Well, the Front Range was the definite poll winner, so here's what we're thinking:
To top off a long day of driving, hiking, and photos, we will head to Seven Lakes to take some pictures in front of the incredible waterfallsWe are shooting for August 29th-30th for the little adventure. I want to ensure I have plenty of time to create my Save the Dates!
Thanks for everyone's help & input!

I'm trying to plan a fun engagement photo session in or around Denver. Do any Denver brides have recommendations? Where did you have your engagement pictures taken?
