kdkadinger    May 21, 2011   Wedding: Key West, FL

Hi, We are 2 weeks away from taking our engagement pictures... we are somewhat new to South Florida. We live between Ft Lauderdale and Miami. We just don't know the area well enough to pick a couple locations for pictures. We definitely will include the beach, but probably somewhere more private, like Key Biscayne.

We're looking for places with Florida-charm... we love rustic/old looking buildings, iron gates, limestone, gardens/flowers... we don't really want the glitz/glam of South Beach. We're getting married in Key West, and we're laid back people. We just can't go to KW for epics...

Anyone familiar with South Florida and can suggest some cool places for us to think about? Someplace within driving distance?

    Help appreciated! Thanks!

Here is some ideas I got from other people. I hope it helps. Smile

    Deering Estate (fees for photography)

Fairchild Tropical Gardens  (fees for photography)

Barnacle Historic State Park, Coconut Grove

Various city parks on Coconut Grove shoreline

Vizcaya Museum and Gardens  (fees for photography)

    City park north of Vizcaya

Del Prado Entrance, Coral Gables - pilars and walls with an old Roman feel (limited, but beautiful)

Miami Design District or the Garment District

Picnic beaches along entrance to Rickenbacker Causeway to Key Biscayne (limited potential, with sunset and skyline views)

Crandon Park and beach on Key Biscayne (deserted island feel during the week)

South Beach and Lummus Park, Miami Beach (usually too much tourism but has that South Beach feel and look)

Española Way, Miami Beach, off Washington Ave., for use of walls and backgrounds (can be combined with South Beach)

Haulover Park and beach, with ocean, rocks, dunes, grungy building as well as Intracoastal views

Hollywood beach, north of Sheridan, for a natural beach with mangroves, dunes, palm trees, as well as Intracoastal views

Downtown Fort Lauderdale, Riverwalk - lots of cool walls, the river, and other backgrounds

Las Olas Blvd. - great for an urban look, with many interesting walls, iron gates and close to a river park

The Morikame Museum and Japanese Gardens, Boca Raton (per person fees)
