Okay ladies.. I just got married on August 3rd to the love of my life!!! I live in San Diego but decided to have my wedding in Illinois because we are both from there, and most of our family resides there. My wedding day was ideal. Beautiful ceremony and reception, lots of dancing and best of all surrounded by family and friends. After all the planning I was happy that the day that I planned for for a year was finally over… It wasn’t til about 2 days later that I found out something was wrong. I went over to my aunties house to return a few things that I had borrowed from her when she asked me if I had liked the card that she had given me. I told her I didn’t receive a card from her. She said she had given me a card and had placed $50 in it. I told her when I got back to where I was staying I would check again because I have a really bad memory and maybe I just forgot that I had read her card. I went and checked and I didnt have a card from her. I called her and told her. She then called my other auntie which told me she had given me a card with money in it also which I ddn’t receive.Long story short I had over 200 guest and received 11 cards. I posted something on FB about the incident and we had SEVERAL people tell me they gave us cards which we didn’t get. It saddens me and hurts me to my soul that someone would do this to us on our wedding day. This isn’t something that I would have EVER imagined would happen. AFter all, we are the type of family that will give the shirt off our back if someone needed it. But to steal from us on such a special day is just crazy… So brides to be, please place your box where it can be watched or place a lock on it. You honestly never know what can happen. I fell victim to such a hateful crime and I hope noone has to feel the pain and betrayal that we felt.

OMG I am so sorry, that is just so wrong! I read about this happening to someone else prior to our wedding so I assigned someone to take the box immediately after the ceremony and put it in their car. How awful. 🙁

Things like this really make me lose faith in humanity. I’m so sorry this happened to you.

@Devyah924: So sorry this happened to you. This is exactly why I made my cardbox the way I did, the only way to get cards out of it was to rip it apart.

I was AMAZED at how many people put cash in their cards they gave to us. We had over $2K in cash in our card box. From now on I will always write a check if I give money to a couple on their wedding day. At least that ensures that if the card does get stolen, the theif can’t get my money.
I just can’t believe people would do that!

Yeah you guys.. What sucks even worse is I believe they did it 2 times. When my mom brought me the box (before dinner)there was only one in there. A few people told me they placed it in the box in 2 different locations which means they had to do it twice. What’s bad is that we hadn’t even noticed anything. There was soooo much going on that even the people who handed the cards directly to me, I hadnt realized were gone.

This is exactly why our card box can be locked.

Wow, i am so sorry to hear this 🙁 People really do suck! It’s unbelievable that someone, and presumably someone you may know, could have the balls to steal gifts given to you as a couple. How horrible 🙁

Holey crap. How terrible. I’m really sorry to hear that. Maybe it was one of the staff members?
Our box was put into a safe at our hall. It’s their policy that 2 staff members (including one manager) and someone from the wedding watches the box get put in. Only the manager has the code so, it would be clear who opened it if anything was missing. Thay have to do that for just this type of situation.
I’m so sorry this happened. 🙁

I’m so sorry. That is disgusting! I can’t believe someone could think of doing that at all, let alone at someone’s wedding. Personally, I would bring it up with the venue. Not in an accusatory way, but more of an FYI for them. Maybe it was a staff member who did it – the venue should at least be aware and be on the lookout at future weddings.
