I just realized this after reading another post.  My dress is a mermaid style.  I'm a shrimp and my FI's a teddy bear... if you catch my drift.  Will he actually be able to get his head under the dress and pull the garter out without lifting the dress <ahem> too far?

Can't help you with the dress logistics, but my husband's head did NOT go under my dress at our reception.  I told him absolutely not in front of my grandparents!  Our garter was very, very tame at the reception.

I would put the garter on your calf not thigh.  That way, he will not have to reach up far in your mermaid dress.

I think it is more tasteful if he just uses his hand to get it.  In a mermaid gown it would otherwise be waaay too much of a show.

I must have some "risque" friends then because they've all used the head's up method!  I'll be sure to let my FI know he can use his hands if necessary.  Mwahaha!
