We’regetting married where I’m from originally, which is six hours away from here. I have a wingman (wingmom?) who goes and looks at different venues for me/takes pictures/lets me know of her general opinion. Do you know anyone there that can you help you out that way? Are you able to at least visit to do some planning on your own?

I live in Hawaii with my fiance and we’re getting married in California (hopefully).

Unfortunately, I have no suggestions. I just want to post so I can keep up with the board.

I’m thinkging a really good coordinator would be helpful? And lots and lots of early planning. As in, we already have the venue, photographer, caterer and color scheme tentatively picked out. All we need to do is go over there and make some final decisions.

We also are giving ourselves a 2 year engagement in order to get this done as well as possible without killing each other.

Having a similar issue.  We’re getting married 10 hours from where I currently live.  I’ve only been there once…. We’re going to try and get some wedding things done during Christmas vacation.  (Hopefully most of it, since I won’t be able to get back until the wedding most likely.)

I’m having the same issue, I live 2 and a half hours from my fiance and he wants me to do all the planning. I have been up where he lives lots of times but I don’t know any of the nice places. Thankfully I will be moving up there soon but it’s just hard right now because I want to start to really plan it.

ooo I think its really tough to plan from abroad but not impossible.

Where are you getting married? Is it in the US?  If so there are plenty of websites to help you familiarize yourself with reviews and photographs & narrowing down the choices of venues & etc.

I definitely think you should research a bunch, plan an agenda for a trip and then visit to wherever it is you’re getting married and check out all the venues, caterers, tastings of cake, florist/photographer interviews, have an e-shoot, etc!

In my experience, things are SO different in person than in the photos online so I can’t recommend a pre-booking trip to really get a feel for yourself.
