I swear by my layers. I have very fine hair. So basically it gets weighed down by everything, from hair products, to other hair attached to my head. Layers were a lifesaver. Absolutey helps with volume, manageability, and allows my hair to look good without having to do much styling. It gave it movement and body. My hair is about halfway down my back at this point and it will never NOT have layers. 🙂

I have long hair and I curl my hair daily and it holds. I do have minor layers (nothing drastic). Another key is starting with the right product. Make sure you aren’t using any heavy moisturizing conditioners/leave-ins that will make your hair limp and heavy.

THis is a photo of me last NYE after being in the snow ALL day! As you can see my hair held the curls.

EDIT: Oh and for a reference I have very, very thick hair.

Is your hair thick or thin?  I have thick hair and don’t like deep layers.  I get them around my face, but that’s it.

I have layers and very fine hair….  unfortunatly my hair still can’t hold a curl.  I do LOVE my layers though!

@Treejewel19:  I curl almost daily, too!  People think I’m crazy when they find out that I use hot rollers and curling irons all the time!

I have long hair with long layers. I have a lot of volume! Specify long layers so they don’t cut it too short. I think you’ll like it. It gives hair more life overall.

I have very long, heavy hair (middle of my back).  I have my hair cut into long layers (with the shortest falling below my shoulder) and I also have my hair thinned to take some weight off of it.  It really changes how “flat” my hair looks.

@SamanthaLovesJames:  I have layers and long hair and if your hair is fine, they will definitely give you more volume.

Here’s how my layered hair looks with curls:

I have very thick, long hair. I do not have layers. I never curl my hair but it stayed for the wedding:
