I just have a quick question. FOr the mother and the mother in law do they have to wear long or short dresses? iI have been told if its more than 50 guests than it has to be long and we plan of having 180 guest? Is that true? What do you guys think about it? Thanks

I don't think it matters to be honest! Or at least I don't care. I think whatever they like and feel comfortable in should be what they wear!

Honestly I'd leave it up to them and what they feel comfy in.  :)  My mom and FMIL both wore shorter dresses, but my mom came very close to buying a floor length one.  She looked gorgeous in both!

I have never heard of that!  I think the dress choice should be dependant on the formality of the wedding.

I think it depends more on your venue and how formal your wedding is.  Ours is a garden wedding in June, so my mother is wearing something just below the knee to beat the heat.

Thanks ladies, see my FSIL told me that bc she got married 2 years ago, i thought that it didnt matter...the wedding is going to be at a nice restaurant and in the afternoon...so if they want to wear short they can right? or long whatever fits them...should i care what the Fsil said or jsut do it the way i want?

Yea I've never heard the number thing either. Maybe it's to distinguish them more? I dunno... my mom is wearing a long dress. I have no clue what my FMIL is gonna wear. I'm leaving it up to them to wear what they're comfortable in :)

I think it depends on the overall formality of the wedding & the mom's personal tastes to be honest.

I have never heard of the length to guest ratio thing before.

I dont think it really matters - we had 144 guests, MOB wore a short dress and MOG wore a long dress. Bridesmaids were all in short dresses.

My mom will probably wear a long dress even though I am getting married outside in May. Her knees rub together (think Jennifer Hudson) so she likes to cover them up...LOL. If I can find something short that will cover her knees I will try to convince her to wear it.
