I don't know it based on your description, but (and this may sound like a really weird suggestion), have you tried Googling the phrase (maybe in quotes?) with boolean phrases like "Catholic" and "hymn"?
Good luck!
That seems vaguely familiar... did you hear it at a Catholic church? Was it a contemporary song? What was the tempo like?
I think I might know it (maybe), but could use a few more clues.
am emailing your post to my FMIL- she has been in a Catholic Church choir for ages and ages- crossing my fingers she'll recognize it!
I'll post again if I hear back from her- good luck!
Thanks! Well it was at a Catholic mass. It wasn't overly upbeat but I do remember they sang it accompanied by a guitar. It was a shorter song (that's why I'm thinking it may have been responsorial). It may be a lost cause...
Can you ask someone from the church? Sometimes, a chuch has an email address -- and you might find someone all too happy to help!
I found it! At mass today I flipped through the Hymnal and found it. It is called "Because The Lord Is My Shepherd" and its based on Psalm 23, thought the lyrics are by Christopher Walker. The Lyrics are copied below ... We may use it as a responsorial, not sure yet. Verse 2 is my favorite.
1. Because the Lord is my shepherd,
I have ev’ry thing I need.
He lets me rest in the meadow and leads me
to the quiet streams.
He restores my soul and he leads me
in the paths that are right:
Refrain
Lord, you are my shepherd,
you are my friend.
I want to follow you always,
just to follow my friend.
2. And when the road leads to darkness,
I shall walk there unafraid.
Even when death is close I have courage,
for your help is there.
You are close beside me with comfort,
you are guiding my way:
3. In love you make me a banquet
for my enemies to see.
You make me welcome, pouring down honor
from your mighty hand,
and this joy fills me with gladness;
it is too much to bear:
4. Your goodness always is with me
and your mercy I know.
Your loving kindness strengthens me always
as I go through life.
I shall dwell in your presence forever,
giving praise to your name:

Okay, this is probably a long shot but I thought I'd throw it out there because Bees are known for finding some pretty hard to find things. Next task: Hymn
So three years ago when I was at Church in Syracuse (I write this because some Church's tend to stick with the same songs, who knows, maybe you've heard it too), they sang on a hymn that had a line in it sort of like "I will walk with you, just to walk next to a friend". It's not that phrase EXACTLY (I've already tried to google that) but it's along those lines. It is also not a Psalm because I distinctly remember it being written by someone (not direct from the Bible, I think his name may have been Bob something lol). I think it would be a beautiful responsorial hymn but man oh man I think I've gone crazy trying to find it.
Anyone?
