I've been looking for a dress to wear to a wedding I'll be attending on Oct. 8th.  Here in the midwest the weather is already changing.  I turned the furnace on last Thursday so if it's cold enough for the heat to be on, I certainly need a dress with sleeves! There are lots of beautiful dresses out there but most of them are strapless, have no sleeves or maybe cap sleeves.  I want something with at least 3/4 length sleeves, otherwise I'll be freezing.  It is so frustrating!  It's the beginning of fall for goodness sakes!  What's with all the fall clothing (dresses, sweaters, and blouses) that is cute, but not warm?!

I have the same issue. I dont wear strapless dresses so when I want to go to an event where I need to do it up, its so hard to find a dress that has the coverage I want without making me look dowdy!

I search and search until I track one down. Ive had a lot of success at Nordstroms and Lord & Taylor.

@AlbanianBride27:  I like Nordstrom's but I'm a bit too frugal for that store.  I found a couple of dresses with sleeves online and ordered them.  They came last Friday.  I don't like the way either of them fits. : (  I much prefer to walk into a store and try clothes on before I buy them.  One of them will do, but I don't love it.  I'm hoping I find something else before the wedding in two weeks.  There just isn't much to choose from.

    Cardigans. They save every outfit.

@Selcier: yup, cardigans save my stuffing :) I'm always freezing too so I couldn't imagine going around all the time with no sleeves.

I'm curious where you live in the Midwest? I'm in the Midwest too and I'm still using the AC in 60 degree weather, lol

Thirding the cardigans.  Especially handy if you do end up working up a sweat on the dancefloor, since you can remove them!

Abercrombie actually sells some REALLY pretty embellished cardigans that are perfect for dressier occasions. And when they're on sale, they're quite reasonably priced.  I'm wearing this one with a fuscia dress to a wedding in DC in a few weeks - since the weather is so unpredictable this time of year - it was 49 bucks on sale.

Cardigans work sometimes. If you are going to a really fancy party, a cardigan is a big no in my opinion. Then again, the events I go to generally have a dress code of evening gowns. I guess it depends on the event. Albanian weddings for example, you better be glitzy and red carpet ready or you are gonna stand out and not in a good way!

Have you tried Target? Ive found some awesome dresses there. Its my favorite bargain store.

T.J. Maxx also gets some pretty great stuff here and there. Calvin Klein, my fav designer, has quite a few evening gown designs with sleeves. I usually go to Nordstroms to get his designs, but I have had major luck at T.J. Maxx also. Trust me, I prefer T.J.Maxx much nicer to my wallet!

@AlbanianBride27: You could always go with a fancier bolero or shrug for a nicer dress or gown to achieve the same effect

I always love a shrunken tuxedo jacket or well tailored boyfriend blazer with a dress and heel *swoon*.

@sunshine_kar:  Good suggestions, but I'm a little too old for those stores.  My daughter shops at Wet Seal!

@stephanie63087: I'll give Kohl's a look, but they don't usually have a lot of dresses to choose from.

@galloway111:  I'm in Ohio.  I had the heat on for almost a week.  Now it's warm enough to open the windows.  Who knows what the weather will be in two weeks when I attend the wedding!  But, even if the day is warm, I'm sure the evening will be too cool for me.

@AlbanianBride27:  I agree that cardigans aren't fancy enough.  I'd feel like I was dressed for work rather than a wedding.  I live in Marshall's and TJMaxx!!  Most of the dresses were strapless, no sleeve, or cap sleeve.  : (  The only things I've seen with sleeves are suits.

@kala_way:  Good suggestion!  However, boleros are not flattering on me.  I have big boobs and a smaller waist.  The bottom of the bolero will fall too far away from my body to be flattering.  : (

These are the dresses I ordered.  Jersey knit is my best friend!!!  (I'm kind of curvy.)  But, there were little things that made the fit unflattering.

Long sleeved dresses. Where are they? : wedding dresses sleeves 031J8510000?hei=140&wid=140&op Sharpen=1&qlt=75 The front openings didn't drape correctly.  It made me look wider in the hips. : (

Long sleeved dresses. Where are they? : wedding dresses sleeves 031J8513000?hei=140&wid=140&op Sharpen=1&qlt=75 Looked okay but the slit on the side is angled toward the front of the dress and doesn't fall correctly.  It bunches up at the top of the slit. You can't see all that from the stock photo.  It looks weird to me.

I'm still looking!  I found a couple of other dresses online that I kind of like, but of course they don't have my size.

Have you tried JC Penney?  I'm considering trying to find this one in the store because it comes in my favorite color -- green --- AND it's $69.99.

Sorry, can't get pic to work...ugh.

@Neva: I like that one.  I hope it comes in a brighter color.  I don't really care for the green.

Boleros are nice, but since all the older women in my family are such huge fans, I never wear them to events. I usually will wear them or a cardigan to parties held at home and its almost as hard finding a bolero I like. Shoulder pads look horrendous on me and sometimes they dont fit right. My chest is ample size while my waist is very small. (basically the same issue as 2ndtime) I prefer finding gowns that already have cap sleeves, or tank straps, or long sleeves. Ive had pretty good success. Sometimes I find an amazing dress thats strapless but I have a great seamstress in Brooklyn who works magic and adds sleeves without taking away from the dress. She doesnt even charge that much because I go to her pretty often.

2ndtime, i love those dress you chose. Wrap dresses are also very classy esp if you are fuller at the chest but smaller at the waist. Wrap dresses are actually really nice for all body types.

@AlbanianBride27: I love wrap dresses!  I have a few, but they all have short sleeves. I saw a woman the other day wearing a wrap dress with kimono sleeves but I haven't seen them for sale anywhere.
