If you cannot choose both, don't! We will be having a mixture of the long king arthurs and squares. The benefit to doing a long table is that your guests have the option to speak with more than one person at the table, whereas with rounds, you are usually confined to the people on either side of you.
Good luck!
We had a mix due to the size of our room, and it worked out great. Long tables give people a little more room. Round is kind of constraining.
I think it depends on the size of the rounds! I've been on 12-person rounds, which I think are too big as you can't talk comfortably to anyone except the people on either side of you. We're having 8-person rounds, which are more intimate -- I think you get the best of both worlds, as you can talk to everyone at the table easily, without the person at the end of the table getting a little left out.
I did both, and the rounds will have one kind of centerpiece with the rectangles having another. Our venue is kind of an odd shape. So, mixing the table shapes helps in getting as many guests on one table as is comfortable AND allowing people to move through the tables without acrobatic movements being required.
