Ooh, I would definitely detatch it before you dance! I had to change into different shoes so we could dance and everything. Sounds like such a fun veil plan, though!
Maybe the long veil during first dance would be very nice in your wedding photographs. But I think you should should detatch the cathedral layer before first dance because it's more convinient. You don't have to worry about being stripped over.
And make sure your shoes make you feel comforatable too.
"stripped over"...hehe. I would kill FI if he tried to strip me during our first dance.
My dress is so bulky that there's no way my veil would manage to make it to my feet, so I am definitely keeping the veil on for the first dance (love the pictures I'd get from it). Then I'm switching it out for a hair flower.
There is a way to loop the cathedral veil on the back of your dress. I read about how to do it a while ago and saved it.
How to bustle a cathedral wedding veil
Use a small safety pin placed at the waist of your gown. Tie a half inch white satin ribbon that is about 16 inches long through the safety pin. Tie a knot at the end of the ribbon so that you now have a loop of ribbon. Bring your veil through the ribbon making a large pouf that is about three feet. Voila, your veil should be off the ground and ready for the day.
I've seen on some wedding shows when women just kind of thrown the veil over their arm during the first dance. I wouldn't wear it down on the ground though - I'm way too much of a clutz for that lol
I was wondering about this too...but I like Iblewthebudgets idea of bustling the veil like you would for your dress!!
I actually held mine on my arm. It worked well for me and made for some nice pictures.
I want a cathedral style veil so I thik I'm either going to remove it after the ceremony and wear a sparkly hair thing or I like the idea about draping it over your arm too!
I bought a veil that bustles so I can still wear it for the reception. I am going to bustle my dress and my veil before the first dance. I don't want to have to leave the reception right after the first dance to go adjust my veil.

Hi! I was wondering if anyone kept a long veil on during their first dance. I have not yet bought my veil but I would like a 2 layer veil with a long detatchable layer and a shorter layer to keep on all night, but I don't know if I should detatch the cathedral layer before or after the first dance. Thanks!
