I think the fingertip veil looks silly with your dress. You either need the long one or something much shorter.
@mrsSonthebeach: Thanks. I'm afraid the long veil will take away from the bead work on the train. I didn't even try on shorter ones but that's a good idea.
I think the cathedral legnth looks great, but I understand your concerns. I'm not a fan of the fingertip length.
On a side note, your dress is GORGEOUS. Would you mind sharing the designer/style number?
neither! I think that cathedral is wayyy too long, and especially for outside, try a shorter veil :) pretty dress
I voted for the long veil, but agree with the suggestion of trying a shorter veil. Either way, I had to post to say your dress is AMAZEBALLS! Wow, it is seriously gorgeous and seriously gorgeous on you.
Thanks ladies! The dress is "Brielle" by Kenneth Poole, Spring 2013. There was a trunk show over the weekend and that is where I spotted it. Apparently it's just starting to go into production.
If you google it you'll find the runway shot which I don't think does the gown any justice
@mstellah: Mmm a bit of a toughie, I think the cathedral length takes away from the dress but the fingertip doesn't do it anything for it. How about a fingertip mantilla veil?
I'm one of the few voting for the short veil. The long veil seems overwhelming. But the short one seems flattering.
Definitely don't do cathedral length outside...I've seen veils pick up leaves, dirt, etc. before. I think the fingertip looks lovely, but I second PPs to try a shorter one! I think a plainer veil is the way to go, because your dress beadwork is STUNNING and you definitely don't want to take away from it.
@mstellah: Wow, your dress is gorgeous. Truly stunning. I love it with the long veil; so glamorous...which did you end up choosing?
I love the drama of the long veil... it's stunning! How about you wear that for the ceremony, and then change into a fascinator or browpiece for the reception? I say this not because I worry about mud, but because I'm more worried about people at the reception treading on it and hurting you.
I vote for the long veil, definitely. I don't think it takes away from your dress at all considering it is just a basic veil without embellisment.
I also had a 140" veil outdoors without any issues whatsoever. I didn't pick up leaves, dirt, sticks etc and it is very clean still. You wear it for sucha short time it really isn't too hard to keep it clean.
I usually don't like long veils, but I think it complements this gorgeous dress perfectly
Totally don't mean to be a creepster but I'm stalking your dress *drool* you look INCREDIBLE.
I think the long veil competes too much with your stunning dress. I'd go shorter! :)
I love the long veil!!!!! the third pic looks very pretty too, it's almost asymmetrical?
@mstellah: I can't decide. The long veil in the first picture is stunning but I don't know how much it actually covers up you long train.
I am of no help.
The long veil! It looks fantastic with your dress!
I agree with pp - fingertip veil won't work.
I think a long veil would look great and don't think it will take away the drama of your dress. If anything, it will add more drama and will look spectacular.
Having said that, like some pps suggested, a blusher veil(not the birdcage ones) will work great I think. On the Kenneth Pool runway they had nothing on hair.
The long veil is so beautiful and dreamy and it's perfect for an outdoor ceremony. Please go with it, it looks SO dramatic with your fress!
Go long! If there is a breeze at all the short one might flip over your head and it will get very distracting. Plus the long looks better. If you go long, have them cut the veil to be only about an inch or two longer than the train of your dress. That way you aren't picking up extra things on the ground, but you also aren't messing with the lines of the dress. The beadwork shows through just fine. :)
Wow! That dress is freakin' amazing on you!! Because it's an outdoor ceremony I would go with the shorter veil. That being said I looove the long one...so dramatic!
@CourtneyB: +1. I am having an outdoor ceremony too and the girls at my bridal dress shop who are very knowledgable suggested a longer veil, saying the shorter one is likely to be blown around by the wind. They also suggested cutting it an inch or two past the train of the dress!
I am also going to go with a plain/sheer veil so it doesn't take away from the detail of the dress but still adds drama by being long and gorgeous.
@mstellah: Can you pm me a pic of the long veil you posted along with your dress? I can't seem to see the pics, but just posted based on the question and some other peoples responses! Would help to see the 2 together!
@llgraham: here you go. I ve already decided on the short version as the long one (which looks awesome) just leaves too much up to chance.

@mstellah: congrats on making a decision, they both look great on you and the short one certainly does let the details of the dress shine through... And omg what a fantastic dress!!!! You look so so fabulous in it, it's meant for you:)
if you don't mind me asking, who is the designer of that long veil as I think it is gorgeous... Or if no designer, what kind of style is it? I am having trouble finding the right kind of long veil, I may even just end up getting a local designer to make me one but I haven't really tried on one I absolutely love yet! That could be the one!

Hi Everyone,

I picked my dress yesterday (yes!!) but now am deciding on a veil. I love long veils because I feel they are dramatic and beautiful but feel a short veil may be more appropriate since I am having an outdoor ceremony. Also, my dress is beaded and I'm afraid the delicate veil will get caught and tear. Anyone wear a veil and have any advice?
