I am beyond exited! we are finally going to go look at rings today after my SO takes me out to breakfast! I cant even sleep because im so nervous/anxious/exited.
Any tips on looking at rings? We are going to a family owned jewelry store so im hoping they wont be too pushy!

@misspatient: Just have fun and don’t be afraid to try things on you might not normally choose! Ring shopping is like going into an expensive clothing store and trying everything on because you can, even if some of it feels ridiculous. You might be surprised to find you like things you hadn’t considered before. I stalked these boards like crazy before picking out a ring with my SO, and that really helped me have some ideas about what i like and feel more confident in my decision. I also definitely went to look by myself a few times too. Have fun!

How fun! Don’t freak out, there is a ring for everyone. I agree that you just need to start trying things on. for me, we quickly noticed that there was a pattern to teh rings I liked– halo diamonds around a center stone. And if the jeweler makes you feel bad or you feel pressured, don’t go back! You are the client, you decide what is best for you.

Take your time. Try on lots of styles, have a break – go for a coffee, mull it over. Don’t be pressured. Enjoy this special time.

@misspatient: Have fun and try on everything even if its not something you thought you wanted. when I went, i originally only looked at halos but finally tried a setting with no halo and fell in love immediately :^)

Be open minded. I wanted a princess cut halo with a thick band and no diamonds on the band. We both ended up falling in love with a round cut halo with a skinny band that had diamonds. The only thing I stayed true on was a halo. You will know when you put on “the one”. Relax and have fun. Congrats on going ring shopping. It is so much fun if you let it be.
