I don't know of any near Monticello. But there is a great one near Red Wing. I think it's called the Round Barn or something like that. Probably too far out of the way for you though.
@amariem, yeah pretty much every barn listed online in MN I've seen/heard of. That one is a little out of my budget as well :/ thanks though!
I've been trying to look around for you. I'm from Red Wing and know how expensive the Red Barn is, otherwise that would be a great location!
Here's the Earle Brown Heritage Center, I haven't been there, but it looks like an interesting place..
http://www.earlebrown.com/reception.html
Another option is to look at something historic, and there's plenty of historic sites around Minnesota! Mintahoe has a few including the Nicollet Island Pavillion
awww @alli, thank you so much for your help, that is so sweet!
I had heard of the earle heritage place, but from the pictures on the site, it doesn't look exactly like I'm looking for.
I guess the real reason I put this up there was because I was hoping either someone around here owned or knew of someone who owned a personal barn that I could work out a deal with. Pretty much every place you can find online, you have to buy packages or use their caterer.
I think www.theenchantedbarn.com is gorgeous, and I love camrosehillflowers.com (both farms), but they are so out of my price range (Camrose Hill, though it's GORGEOUS is $3500 to only rent for the day, I wish I had that money!! Catering is additional).. I'm a VERY low-budget bride, my fiance is just finishing up his masters, and I'm taking time off of school because I can't afford it - and I've been out of work for three months... so we're trying to find something reasonable.
But I appreciate your help soo much!
I'm with you!!! I LOVED the red barn and then realized their prices were astronomical. :( Same with Earl Brown center. Pretty expensive plus catering..ugh. Let me know what you come up with!! :) We are about a month and a half before you.
I wish I could help!! I don't know of any in that area. But, I really hope you find what you're looking for. If you do find one, share pictures!!!
thanks girls!
Any of you from MN heard of The Art Barn in Elk River, MN? I drive by it nearly every day and the other day while driving by it (It's right on Highway 169 north of the cities), I thought, hmm, you know it's not an art barn anymore - maybe I could check it out??

I was thinking, would it be totally weird to go up to a strangers house and ask to see/rent their barn??
haha.
I've never heard of the Art Barn. Just one in Alexandria.
Have you thought of an apple Orchard? Check Deer Lake Orchard. I know it's in Buffalo but it's a thought. http://www.deerlakeorchard.com/private.html
Look into the Apple Jack Orchard or something along those lines and maybe you could find something!
Please post if you ever find one that is affordable. These pictures are my mental images of a barn reception.. All the barns I have seen, including round barn in Red Wing, is at least 3,000 including nothing but location rental.
Unless they have changed their practice, I believe the round barn also requires booking their entire B&B as well....
Try Gale Woods in Minnestrista, MN! That is where I am having my wedding in August.
I don't know why I hadn't thrown it out there before, but if anyone's interested in a barn looking location (although it doesn't look like it from the outside) try the Village Hall at the Little Log House Pioneer Village. Such a unique location that has pretty much any picture location you can want. The village hall has nice beams and wood walls giving it more of a barn feeling on the inside.
Background on it: The owners have been purchasing old buildings slated for demolition and moved them to their property just outside of Hastings. They have an antique power show each year in July that's a show of old tractors and period actors and such.
The Riley Jacques barn in Eden Prarie allows you to bring in your own food and beverage. It is an adorable white farmhouse homestead with a white barn. The grounds are beautiful and parking is ample + it costs only $500 to rent for the day. The only thing is that you must wrap up your celebration by 10 p.m. however you could start earlier in the day. Also it is wired for sound as they have bands play there.
I hope that this helps and works out for you.
Hi Sept2610! Have you picked a site? I myself am looking for a location just like yours. Those pics you posted are beautiful! I am too going for the rustic/vintage feel preferably inside a barn. I feel like there are no venues like this in MN? You would think with all the barns in MN we would have something! I hope everything fell into place!
Hi---I would just go drive around. Ask small town business owners if they know of anything...who knows what barns are occupied or available, worth checking out on a nice day!
If there is a local horseman's association, I'd try them for ideas & maybe post notices on local feed store bulletin boards. In fact, I'd ask the feed store staff for suggestions.
I live near a horsey community & the feed store people know everything. So does the staff at the local equine vet's office.
@sept2610: It probably is a little too late for you, if so congratulations. If you have not been married yet Larsons Barn in Mcgregor, MN. Is EXACTLY what you are picturing. I saw the pictures that you put up and thought that would be perfect so I began looking. To anyone else who is seeing this and thinks that the barn reception is ideal, check it out. I am!
So I looked into Larsons barn and it is $800 to rent the barn for a reception, looks like about 900 to do the wedding and reception there. Also It sounds like you can set up the day before and tear down the day after. Bring in your own alcohol and use whatever vendor or caterer you wish to bring in.
There's a beautiful round roofed barn at Sweetgrass Farm in Dalbo, Minnesota that is available for [sober] weddings and other events. The hay mow is a wonderful dance space, too.
Here's a "Free Barn Wedding" contest, if you want a small barn wedding:
I know this is from two years ago but all the information is great in here and I would love to reopen it for more great ideas! I would love love to get married in a rustic/barn setting here Minnesota. My fiancee currently works in California so I get to find the venue all by myself (with my bridesmaids help of course.) So any suggestions of other rustic places would be great!

Okay all you Minnesotans.
I found what I want my dream reception to look like. I'm doing a vintage/rustic theme for my wedding, and I love these two barns. They are beautiful with so much charm.
Does anyone in the midwest know anyone who might be willing to rent their barn to me for my wedding day? Preferably near Monticello, MN (because I'm planning on having my ceremony there, but if it's not, I'll still consider it!).
Thanks so much my fellow MN bees!!
