I am wondering if there are any Utah bee’s out there that can help me. I am trying to find a custom jeweler in the greater SLC area.
I have 3 rings, my engagement ring, his mothers engagement ring, and a cocktail ring that I want to have made into a custom bridal set for me.
I have been looking online, and most of the websites don’t give too much detail about custom work. And a lot of those place seem to only want to do “from scratch” work. And I really cannot afford to do a full on set from scratch.
All of the rings have sentimental value to me. My intent is to use it as both my something old, and something new. Any of you ladies have any ideas? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

@thumpurr: Do you mean someone who only does custom jewelry or could it be a regular jewelry store who also does customizations? I don’t know of any who solely do customization.

@sienna76: Well either is fine. I just would like them to use the rings I have to make the new set. I don’t want to have all new stones or metal, I want them to make a set out of the rings I have. Everyone I have checked with wants you to purchase the stones and metal from them new. If that makes any sense. And purchasing all new metal and diamonds just costs way too much money.

If you’re going to have something new made from the old, I highly recommend visiting and talking to jewelers! Go to any and every local store (not chains!) and spend time talking with the jeweler (not sales people). Find a place you trust and where you “click” with the jeweler, not to mention the jeweler seems to know his stuff!
Having a ring/s remade is only the cost of labor if nothing new is added, so it should be pretty reasonable if the end result is not extremely fancy.
We were given a half carat diamond set in a ton of gold (for a ring anyway!). And visited 20-30 jewelers with what we wanted done. Most said about $250 to recast/set/etc. One said $900 o_O. One told me “I could make that but you wouldn’t like it”.
Needless to say we didn’t go with them, I got what I wanted by a jeweler who was excited to make it and I love it! And the jeweler we picked was slow (we were warned) but awesome to talk to, and in his work. He even made the mold a little large but half and half cause he “had an idea” but whatever we wanted he could just pare down the mold (it was still sized to try on… just the top part was big so whatever we picked he could pare it down). The idea he had was a little change and made the ring better than we even envisioned and is what we picked. Make sure you jeweler is an artist and able to communicate and his business is honest and you’ll be super happy whatever you do!
Best of luck, having a special ring/set is pretty nifty and I hope you get what you are looking for!

@MrsTangerine: Thanks for all of the advice. I am going to stay away from chain type stores. I agree, I want someone who truly is an artist, and takes their time creating the perfect set for me.
Unfortunately, the rings have ALOT of little diamonds, and one half carat diamond. I would really like to use ALL of them, as I want a bling-y set. I have been sending out emails to the ones that do custom work. I will keep everyone posted on how it goes.
In the end what is important to me is that I have one uniquely special piece, incorporating all of the rings in one. I want it to be something special as all of the rings being used have sentimental value to me.
Here is the rings I would like to use. Sorry kind of crappt pic, not real good with the camera.
