I'm not much help, but that silhouette is really beautiful! And I love the dress.
One of my favorite dresses was the dress Melania Trump wore. I love that look of very fitted top with a really crazy skirt. I've tried on a whole lotta mermaids and it is different than the usual mermaid look because the skirt starts much higher than the knee. Mermaids flare out closer to the knee, I thought.
If I could find something similar to the Melania dress (fitwise, at least), I'd be thrilled! :)
Thanks for your super fast responses, ladies!
Tried on this one by Winnie Couture. You guys get the idea. I guess I like a really BIG mermaid, like elysemichelle said. LOL :)
I tried on a dress of that style and found it very difficult to walk in. I'd also call it a mermaid.
the skirt on this one isn't as dramatic but I think it's gorgeous. (check out the front and back by clicking alternative images)

such a gorgeous dress! I'd classify it as a mermaid style too :)
do you guys like the Winnie Couture or the Piccione more?
I have a dress very similar to that though the poof isn't quite as big and I've been calling it a mermaid - at least that's what the store called it! Mine is an anne barge from the le fleur collection but I think it's from the 2006 collection - I bought it as a sample so it was reasonably priced. I'd post a picture but don't have it with me right now.
I don't know if I'd call this a mermaid or a trumpet, but I guess trumpet is just when the a-line starts lower than a standard a-line, so then it's a mermaid? Maggie Sottero has a lot of this sillhouette and her dresses are not too badly priced.
I'm with a few others. Its either a mermaid or trumpet. I see the two terms used interchangeably alot, so i am not sure if there is a difference or what.
Mermaid! There is a difference between mermaid and trumpet - trumpet being a gentler transition between the fitted bodice and the flaring skirt. Mermaid silhouettes have a far more dramatic transition, one that is clearly delineated. Unfortunately most people confuse the two, so you'll have to explain what you're looking for when shopping. Cool dress!
I guess high mermaid or poofy trumpet, personally I think it is more like a trumpet with a lot of drama and volume.
aroosa... did u find a dress yet? I love this Piccionne you posted! (even though you said u didnt really like in person) I'm from Orange County too and I did order my dress already but I am totally having second thoughts! (i ordered Anjolique 930)... I can not stop looking!
Anyway, I hate alfred angelo which is where the Piccione is at, but I think I am giong to go just to try this on....
@alihurtado: that's so cool that you are in orange county too! they don't have this dress at the brea or huntington beach alfred angelo stores... or at least they didn't have it last month when I was hunting. I had to go all the way up to the alfred angelo store in beverly hills. I would call the oc stores first just to check, before you go in. save yourself from dealing with alfred angelo stores more than you have to! It's just not a very pleasant experience... felt like I was buying a used car! anyway, i didn't buy this dress and i haven't found one yet. it's kind of a long story.... LOL
In person the dress just looks plain on the bodice. the beading was really lacking IMO. but i did consider having beading added and then it would look really cool but i know that it can get expensive to add beading and the dress is pretty expensive for the quality, i thought. it's priced at $2400 but then alfred angelo does their weird sales and promos so the price fluctuates. it got down to $1900 but now it's back up. i know you can hard bargain with them to get more off. they are so pushy to make the sale right there and then.
the anjolique 930 is a GORGEOUS gown... i think you will have a hard time topping it! :) let me know what happens.
I agree; mermaid! If you are comfortable taking the risk, I bet someone on etsy could make a dress like this, with the detailing you'd prefer.
I just bought the Piccione 452 dress today!!!! I'm so excited!!!! I've made some modifications to the dress by adding swarovski crystals down where the mermaid begins...I also thought it was lacking crystals as the top is overly done with them.....
Aroosa what dress did you end up getting for your wedding day ???
on the above alvina valenta dress link it calls the bodice
"elongated dropped waist bodice" and I would guess mermaid or trumpet, as well.

Hi Bees!
I really like the way this dress is very fitted but then has a dramatic drop waist "poof". I tried it on yesterday and it was a great silhouette but I wasn't crazy about the detailing. The beading at the top leaves a lot to be desired - seems like they threw on a triangle of rhinestones as an afterthought. And the lace on the upper part of the dress seems really cheap... not the kind of quality that would justify the $2400 price tag.
It seems to be hard to find this type of style. Usually, the "poofs" start closer to the waistline. What do you call this style? I don't think it is a ballgown or mermaid or a-line, right? Modified ballgown? LOL
Ines Di Santo has a few styles but her dresses are just so darn pricey. Darn.
If you have seen anything like it, though, please share. Thanks!
P.S. This is the Piccione 452, in case anyone was wondering.
